The job that no one wants or wish to do but has to be done. Sewer cleaning happens everywhere but looks worst in countries that are under water like India. The caste system is Hindu but it is also Indian. It permeates Muslim societies. Sewer cleaners can also be dalits, belonging to the caste known throughout South Asia as the “untouchables” and cosigned to menial jobs. In Bangladesh, they are called the derogatory term methor -those who clean shit. They can not get any other jobs. In fact, the “untouchables” tried going to college but got bullied by higher caste members, both students and teachers. Some of them had to commit suicide. There is no easy answer to their situation, they need the money and had little choice hence, sewage cleaning. To make it worst, the cities are always under water repeatedly throughout every year. This looks depressing, in a first world country, a sewer cleaner should be making close to six figures and must be consolidated with high end protective gear.
