what if the list comes out today
Re: Unilorin Admission 2010/2011 by akintola22: 9:16am On Oct 10, 2010
@All, Goodmorning to you guyz.
I believe that majority of those who are participating in this forum are seeking admission into the so-called Unilorin and have scored 50% and above or may be a student, whatever category we may fall in, my prayer is that may God Almighty crown our efforts day and night with 2010/2011 admission.  Amen.

It is not when the list will be out we should be bothering ourself with but how our name is going to be included. One thing that is very sure is that they will release that list one day.

@Bigbug, truth is bitter, but is good to always say it, no matter how bitterness or dreadful it is.  Infact, I always enjoy your post in this thread.  And I will like to buttress your point that some people may not be admitted with the following reasons:

* Some people will refuse to follow simple instructions on the school website, e.g. strict adherence to choose a particular cause which they are not qualified for.
* False declaration of academic information or personal info.
etc.
NB:  Before you start joining us in prayer, you have to make sure you 've put everything in place, because our God can do miracles but He always like to do it in the right way.

When High Scores No Longer Guarantee Varsity Admission
From Punchng.com

The crises facing higher education in Nigeria have continued to worsen. Unlike before, when candidates who scored high marks in the Universities Matriculation Examination were assured of admission, surpassing the cut-off points has proved inadequate these days, report Bukola Adebayo and OLUNIKE ASAOLU.
According to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, about 340,000 out of the 867,000 candidates that qualified for admission in the 2010 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination would not be admitted into any of the nation’s tertiary institutions this year due to lack of space.
For instance, the Federal University of Technology, Ado-Ekiti, would be admitting a mere 2,800 undergraduates in the 2010/2011 academic session; while the University of Ibadan will be admitting 3,500 candidates out of the 5,700 quota the National Universities Commission gave it for its undergraduate programmes for the 2010/2011 academic session.
While Ojerinde said that some of the candidates who failed to secure admission to their preferred institutions would be distributed to schools that have fewer number of applicants, stakeholders advised that, to increase access to higher education, qualified candidates should seek alternatives such as the on-line programmes and the open university system.
Perhaps echoing the frustrations of other parents in his category, the Head, Human Resources and Administration, Oil/Offshore Combination Limited, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Mr. Gafar Idowu, whose son, Kayode, applied to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering, said the problem with education in particular and the nation as a whole, was lack of infrastructure.
He said, “The facilities are not just there –– classrooms, or the student-lecturer ratio, which remains unbalanced. We need infrastructural development and it boils down to everything in the country. When the population grows, governments don‘t have the infrastructure to grow with it.
“For instance, the five classrooms that were used for 45 students about 22 years ago are still being used for the teeming population of students in higher institutions. I think what will solve our problem is that government should implement education budget as planned. It should ensure that funds allocated for a project are judiciously used. More lecturers should be employed to accommodate the number of new intake. Then the issue of motivation cannot be over-emphasised. Our higher institutions should be well-funded, so that they will have enough spaces to accommodate both students and lecturers.”
Also, a student, Mautin Oseni, supported the idea of creating more technical schools. “If admission to higher institutions of learning is so difficult that many students are left wandering about, government should create more technical schools in order to provide opportunities for students that may prefer to go to these institutions. Therefore, there should be effective counselling unit right from the secondary school, so that everyone will know where he fits in.”
On how he would feel if given another university instead of her first choice, Oseni said, “After struggling to write UTME and Post-UTME, you are still not sure of gaining admission to the school of your choice. For me, therefore, I will still be happy if given another university instead of my first choice.”
Continuing, she said, “These days, it is difficult to gain admission to higher institutions. It is the survival of the fittest. So, if I am given a university other than the one I chose, once I’m certain to come out with a degree, I will go for it. However, I don’t want another course except the one I applied for.”

In his reaction to the issue, the First National Vice-President of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria, Mr. Gabriel Farotade, said the implication of not getting students admitted is that many of them will become vagabonds, parading the streets aimlessly.
Farotade suggested that one of the factors that will lead to increased access to higher education is to increase the available facilities. “We need to increase facilities by establishing more universities and allowing more private ones to thrive by granting them license.

“Also, state governments should try to assist by establishing technical schools and universities of education. If we have more technical schools, the pressure on universities will be reduced. We have only a few of them in Nigeria, but there is disparity between technical schools and universities,” he said
However, he said the National Open University of Nigeria could help if it was financially empowered. “The essence of establishing the open university is to give education to all, but one of its limiting factors is finance. It does not have enough funds to operate, no sufficient materials and centres.”

In a telephone interview with our correspondent, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Luke Ayorinde, said that to increase candidates’ access to academic degrees, the Federal Government, through the NUC, should increase the number of private universities in the country.
Ayorinde noted that the accreditation of credible private institutions proposed by well-meaning organisations and individuals would ensure that quite a number of qualified candidates were absorbed into tertiary institutions.
According to him, In 2009, UNILORIN could only admit 4,809 students as directed by JAMB; while in 2010, only 5,014 will be admitted.

Concerning public universities, Ayorinde said, “Unless the Federal Government makes a conscious effort to increase infrastructural facilities, staff strength, accommodation facilities, libraries and other needed structures, we cannot solve the problem of carrying capacity.”
Also, Former Acting Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Olushoga Sofola, said that admission to tertiary institutions should be competitive and should not always be automatic.
He said, “It is not everybody that passes the examinations that would be taken. Higher education is not automatic, but it is for the best. Those who do not succeed should try the following year. The only snag is that they will add to next year‘s number and further increase the pressure on spaces.”
He said it was time candidates tapped into the various on-line education programmes and the open university system, as being done in advanced countries.

Sofola said, “Open university can increase access to higher education. With adequate Internet bandwidth, NOUN should be able to hold at least 60 per cent of its lectures on its web site. Individual Internet access with possession of a laptop is also important. A solution is to provide several study centres, each with a minimum of about 500 computers, radical overhaul of course contents and the ability to conduct continuous assessments with prompt release of results.
“University of South Africa has one of the largest open university platforms in the world, and one of its most famous alumni is Nelson Mandela. We can borrow from its success.”
He added that the problem of limited spaces would have been addressed if the government had tapped into vocational and technical education to empower youths in the country, in addition to addressing infrastructural constraints in higher institutions.
The Chairman, Admissions Committee, University of Ibadan, Prof. Joseph Anthony Woods, advised candidates to apply for the distant learning programmes of their chosen institutions or enrol in institutions where candidates are prepared for ‘A’ Levels examinations.
According to him, the 10 per cent Direct Entry quota reserved for candidates with such results will ensure that they are admitted next time.

@ALL, LETS LEAVE EVERYTHING FOR GOD AND CONTINUE OUR PRAYERS. Stop giving yourself unecessary problems.

Kudos to everyone in d house.   One love!!!
