Oluseun Michael Olaifa, 26, from Tottenham, north London has convictions for attacking a string of teenage girls on public transport and was being held in a mental hospital

A dangerous sex offender who attacked a string of teenage girls has escaped from hospital during 'escorted leave' from a mental hospital.

Oluseun Michael Olaifa, 26, escaped from Barnet General Hospital while on escorted leave from an un-named north London mental hospital.

Police confirmed Olaifa fled at 3pm yesterday.

Olaifa, who is from Tottenham, north London, targeted teenage girls while travelling on trains and buses in the capital.

Scotland Yard have urged anyone who spots Olaifa to immediately call 999 due to the risk he presents young women and other members of the public.

He has been held in hospital since December 4, 2015, under the terms of the Mental Health Act, however he has repeatedly breached earlier Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

According to Scotland Yard: 'Officers are concerned that he presents a risk to the public, especially young females.'

He is described as a black man, between 5ft 4 and 5ft 5 in height and of slight build. He walks with a limp and has deformed ears which are both curled at the top.

The Met said he is a British national and has connections to Haringey

According to Scotland Yard: 'When last seen he was wearing dark clothing, including a black hat which covered a plaster on his head. Olaifa is prohibited from travelling on public transport as his previous offending was committed on London buses.'

Officers said Olaifa should not be approached and if spotted, members of the public should dial 999 immediately.

Anyone with information which can lead to his recapture is asked to call Barnet CID via 101.
