I dont know why anybody love or hate Buhari but i believe the President made a good move by not signing the agreement because the few industries we have can not provide enough jobs for youths so if we let those countries take our market, there will be no industry left to provide jobs for youths. Sometimes we need to put politics aside and face reality. All Mr President is saying is dat we should not let them kill the little industries we have left. 1 Like |

greatsly:You talk as if you know the content of the agreement. If the agreement is bad for Nigeria, OBJ will not go all the way to criticise Baba for not signing it. He is saying he refused to sign for the interest of Nigerians that his Fulani Herdsmen are killing everyday and yet nothing serious has been done to stop them, same youth he promised to pay and didn't, same youth he made jobless through his unintelligent policy. The list goes on. Stop the praises, Buhari is the worst thing that ever happened to Nigeria quote me. 1 Like |

Given the low educational level of the average Nairalander, I'm not surprised most of the commenters here see Buhari's decision as a sensible one, but to anyone with reasonable exposure to economics, this protectionist measure is yet one more piece of evidence in support of the notion that Buhari is absolutely clueless about how to run an economy. It is absurd to think opting out of free-trade agreements will do anything but make a few domestic producers richer at the expense of the Nigerian masses, and those who understand the real bases of economic development will understand that the key thing is improving productivity per head, something that is helped along by increasing competition rather than avoiding it. Cheap talk of "dumping" is fine coming from the mouths of laymen whose ignorance is at least checked by their powerlessness, but it is depressing to see that the man at the very top has no more understanding of how economies work than does the average Nairaland loudmouth. Buhari's economic ignorance is of such magnitude that the Nigerian masses would be better off with Buhari anywhere but in Aso Rock - he could even spend the rest of his current term on "medical leave" in London, and the Nigerian economy would be vastly better off for it, as Osinbajo has shown himself to have both a firm grasp of what needs doing and the necessary will to do it, even within the short period of time when he was given relatively free rein to run things. It's too bad Buhari has shown far more love for all the trappings of power than the country he was elected to lead, as if he truly loved Nigeria that much, he would have resigned to look after his health instead of dragging the entire Nigerian economy with him towards the grave. The man is both utterly incompetent and lacking in the minimal insight required to see that he's out of his depth and ought to delegate economic matters to those who actually know what they are doing. 1 Like |

greatsly:You said it as it is. There are too many kids in this forum, who only comment because of their hatred / tribal or religious hatred for the man. Presently in America as at today, Donald Trump has just increased the tax rate of certain goods coming from China to 250%. Why did he do that? First, to protect the interest of America companies who produce similar goods from China. (2) To safeguard the employment of the Americas who work in the US. Those who have never turned a Kobo into a Naira will give you 1000 negative reasons why PMB should sign it. 2 Likes |

bigpicture001: I am commenting on your because you tried to reason. You can see i didn't comment on all those who this Govt can't do anything good in their sight. The agreement is for all West African countries to have a common tariff for goods with Europe. So our companies will be competing with European ones. So Buhari's argument is very valid! The agreement is not for trade between West African countries but with West Africa and Europe |

Badb0y4lyf: We won't! European goods will jjust flood our countries. Please know that the agreement is between European Union and West Africa. Not West African nations. Though, as long as our borders are porous, thye will still come in and we will not get any benefit from the agreement while we bear the negatives aspect all the same |

Ademat7: The policy does not cover foreign produced goods but goods and services whose production are initiated and terminated in Africa ....The truth is that Buhari refused it because of bigotry and world is laughing at Nigeria.. remember this same man wants an unregulated rail line fro Niger to Nigeria |
