The immediate past governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has stated that he is throwing his hat into the ring for the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti state because “public office is too serious to be left to charlatans”.

He stated this in a letter personally signed by him and addressed to the national and state leadership of the All Progressives Party, APC, elders of the party, prominent citizens and traditional rulers in the state, notifying them of his intention to run for the state’s governorship position.

Some prominent names to which the letters were addressed include: national chairman of APC, Chief John Oyegun, National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC former Interim national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, all traditional rulers in Ekiti state, members of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, former and serving governors elected on APC platform, as well as prominent sons and daughters of Ekiti.

Recall that Fayemi, who is presently the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, had on April 2 hinted on his plan to run for the party’s ticket during the quarterly meeting of the Ekiti APC leaders at his Isan Ekiti country home.

A statement issued on Thursday by the minister’s media aide, Yinka Oyebode, reads in part, “Public office is too serious to be left to charlatans and when men and women of good conscience that are committed to the ideals of social justice and the common good turn away from politics, we pave way for unprincipled opportunists to take power.

“My convictions about how much more is possible in Ekiti stem not from any sense of entitlement but from a sense of service, of obligation and from my belief that posterity has positioned us for such a time as this.

“There is much that we have to repair and redress in Ekiti before we can go forward,” Fayemi said.

It is his right to contest. After all, Fayose came back to pick what he forgot to pick during his first tenure. That's how they roll in that state

But why inform the same Tinubu they love to ridicule? Politics sha.

However, Mr. Minister should answer to the indictments by the commission of enquiry set up by the state.

Im truly loosing respect for Ekiti. Why do you guys recycle persons? For 16yrs Fayose and Fayemi doing music chair with Ekiti. Now Fayemi wants to return. Then Fayose after him....then Fayemi come back after that. If you put either of them in something terrible is wrong with you.

But Fayemi was abusing Tinubu only a few months back.

Now that power appears to have changed hands he now knows how to compose love letter.
