This area is really beautiful. This is still Independence Layout of Enugu.

There's a part of inner Independence Layout with exquisite mansions and steep roads. The place reminded me a bit of some neighbourhoods in San Francisco! smiley

Maybe that's part of the area in this pic. The roads could be fixed up a bit better though.

I kinda believe that Anambra is not making enough money from the businesses in it's domain. Obiano should adopt the Lagos model and see the IGR rise and take it's rightful position.

I've wondered the same thing as well. By rights, Anambra and Abia should be making IGR returns of nothing less than 4 billion naira per month!

You hear of Abia attracting FDIs of more than a billion dollars in just one quarter and you just can't square that amount with the miserable 1 billion or so they purport to collect every month. It's obvious some bastards are stealing a huge chunk of the ones collected....something they've been doing for decades and so feel it's now normal.

Also, quite a lot of workers, private businesses, tenants, properties and even established blue-chip coys are slipping through the tax net, yet they all expect gov't to perform wonders with the pittance they manage to collet. I reckon up to 80% of tax is either stolen or uncollected. There's this belief that Igbos can be too stubborn to pay tax and i'm starting to think there's some truth to it...though gov'ts laxity in doing it's job is also a contributory factor.

This is a flyover
This is an interchange with both overpass and underpass. Like I said, you are a layman in this field. Stop being arrogant. Ask questions and learn.
Secondly, stop posting Googled image. Show the ones you believe are real flyovers in other states and tell us how they are different from your definition of a bridge

For those that don't know why Enugu is always rated above their towns, it's little things like this.
Creating little spaces for parks or well maintained golf courses. Not merely building everywhere without any type type of environmentally friendly parks or spaces to purify the air.

A lot of people who should be paying taxes are not.

Part of this problem was from the total collapse of good governance in Anambra state a few years ago. Today, we have good governance, so people should begin paying their taxes to support government.

Other SE states know how to haggle businesses to pay their taxes and block leakages of the money into private pockets of the tax collecting officials. They have perfected the use of banks to collect taxes.

Enugu and Ebony are doing wonderful work in this respect. They have perfected the art of collecting taxes and even automated everything in a registry

Anambra has gradually been implementing this system of POS to collect taxes which will help it collect taxes and block massive leakages into the pockets of the tax collecting officials. Anambra government should also open up more areas around Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi to help those willing to come into the state to find land very quickly. For instance, Awada area of Onitsha was a bush cleared to receive Pope John Paul II in 1982. After his visit, since the area had been cleared, it was easy to convert into a housing layout. The same thing is happening now at the old Oba site of Anambra airport. You need to go there and see the types of buildings going on there despite the threat of erosion in the area.

Anambra state government needs to put access roads into "Bush" areas around Awka, Nkwelle Ezunake- Umueri-Aguleri, Oba etc to open up new areas for planned expansion of the state into a megapolis. Lack of government input in opening these places usually result in haphazard building arrangements later when people just sell land any type of way and build as they like in these areas.

One of the greatest things about Gov. Ugwuanyi is that he plans every estate before the building of structures happen. This is why Enugu will remain the best planned and most habitable SE state for a long time. Planning is the KEY to making a place good enough for foreign investors to live. I love how Obiano uses the housing estates approach, it also helps to make sure planning is incorporated into these estates . We should move away from the years of building unplanned cities that look like slums with good buildings. Let us put our good buildings in well planned estates
Your head dey there. Govt should not leave development in the hands of common man. It will create chaos and disorder. Ugwuanyi is now called "land grabber" but I think "land grabbing" by government is the best way to expand a city than building up the villages in uncoordinated haphazardly manner.
Secondly on tax collection, enugu and ebonyi are approaching development from the angle of strong government institutions while others are banking strong individuals. This two states are not doing very well in human resource and commercial and industrial boom but strong government institutions is the secret of their success

Is like there is a concerted effort to light up all of Anambra down to the innermost rural areas. This is good for development.

I strongly believe that industrialisation is where the development of the southeast lies. Agro-industries placed China and Korea where they are today. I believe Obiano is towing the same path to add another economy to the state outside industrialization and commercialisation in the state.

Weak government institutions and wrong value system. Most times we celebrate individual success ahead of collective success. The thief that stole the money will built a mansion and people will be bragging with it even though the road to the mansion is a mess

Anambra govt, host communuity agree on $140m modular refinery

ONITSHA—The long awaited proposed multi-million naira Modular Refinery, one of the 10 refineries approved by the federal government to be cited in Anambra and nine other oil producing states in the country, may have come alive, following a balance struck between the state government and the Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas, HOSCOM.

This followed a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of Anambra State Investment Protection and Promotion Agency, ANSIPPA. Mr. Jide Ikeakor, by the national chairman of HOSCOM, Prince Mike Emuh.

During the visit which was arranged by the Chief of Staff to Anambra Government House, Primus Odili, the ANSIPPA boss, Ikeakor commended Emuh for his consistent concern for the development of oil and gas in the state and assured him that government would encourage foreign investors who have the interest to cite a modular refinery in the state.

Ikeakor who admitted that Anambra has more quantity of gas than oil flowing underground, said government could as well serve as a guarantor to the investors whenever the refinery project kicks off.

Earlier, the Project Consultant, Engr. Okoro explained that the refinery project which was split in phases, is expected to cost between $15 million and $140 million, adding that when completed, the refinery would be very profitable to both the government and investors

That is the reason why some guys here are so passionate about the state to the extent that they no longer care about other Igbo states except Anambra. That Anambra state is just something else, its natives are wonderfully intelligent and creative people which is why Anambra will always stand out amongst other Igbo states in all positive index. Anambra recently placed Igboland on the forefront of computer programming when everybody taught that programming was only done in Lagos due to the overhyping Lagos gets.

the Lagos model of tax collection is evil and I don't won't that type of tax policy in Igboland. Lagos state taxs its residence as if the standard of living in lagos is as high as that in London. Do you want Anambra to introduce toll gates on newly completed highways, tax hawkers and shanty owners up to 4 times daily, collect tax from bus drivers almost 10 times daily, increase the tax paid for owning a land and building on it? Lagos is about to introduce bore hole tax which will be paid by all houses with bore holes and also introduce consumption tax which will be paid by restaurants, hotels and bear parlours added to their normal income tax. Can you now see how evil their tax policy is?
