Senate Summons IGP Over Benue Killings, Arrest of Senator

Today, the Senate resolved to invite the IGP of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to brief the plenary in the Committee of the Whole, over the recent killings in Benue, and the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye.

Speaking after the Senate Resolution on the matter, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, said:

“I know that it is at times like these that it is very difficult to speak the truth. Because these violations and security challenges affects all of us. This affects us, not only in this institution, but in this democracy — these actions are a threat.

“These excesses must be contained in the interest of all of us. We are about to start elections and if these excesses of those who are meant to be responsible for providing law and order are not contained, it will be a great concern in this country. Therefore, those who are directly responsible need to take up that responsibility.

“Today, I was talking to Senator Akume about what happened in Benue State and he will be here tomorrow to take the issue. Therefore, it is important for the IGP to come and brief us about the security challenges in Benue and the arrest so that we can restore sanity once and for all,” he said.

The same sweet talk, no action. What has happened now is worse than the previous. The senate only barks with no ensuing action. The life of a single Nigerian is worth more than the 13.5millions each of them collects for the entire tenure. Why do they drag their feet in doing the needful. This isn't the first time they are inviting the IGP aka inspector general of Fulani pastoral militia to their chambers, what have they done with the first investigation if not to sit, collect allowance and keep the report away to gather dust.
