Ossai, Ezekiel Host 4th Edition Of ‘Even A Professor Needs A Skill’ Programme In DELSU

Political Aides to Delta State Governor, Comrade Ezekiel Okoh (Students Affairs) and Comrade Ossai Ovie Success (Special Duties), have successfully organized the 4th edition of the one day entrepreneurship awareness/sensitization seminar tagged: “Even a Professor Needs a Skill”.

The programme which held today at the 1000 Capacity Hall, Delta State University, Abraka, had Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor, ably represented by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Tam Birisibe; Engr. Jude Sinebe, Commissioner for Higher Education; Barr. (Mrs.) May Iyasere, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry; Professor Victor Peretomode, Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka; HRM Akpomeyoma Majoroh, Ojeta II, Ovie of Oruarivie Abraka Kingdom, represented by Chief Prince Aruegodoro, and a host of others in attendance.

Comr. Ossai Success, while delivering his welcome address, commended the students for turning out en masse to grace the event, adding that the programme would be a plus to them hereafter.

On his part, Comr. Okoh while explaining the importance of the programme said that the objectives of the programme include: to give students a new orientation from laying emphasis on certificate for employment to looking inward to develop and acquire skills while in school; growing a new generation of student entrepreneurs before they graduate; bringing to the door step of students various government (Federal and State) incentives available for entrepreneurs and reduce the pressure mounted on the government to provide jobs.

Ossai and Ezekiel posited that the reason behind the caption is to demonstrate to students the importance of skill acquisition in our present day society; that as educated as the professor, they still need a skill.
Delivering his opening address, Prof. Peretomode noted that in the past, it was easier for a graduate from the polytechnic to secure employment than those from the university because it was thought that those from polytechnics had skills from their practical experience and not theories like what obtains in many universities.
He added: “Today, there is a high level of employment because everyone is waiting for the government to employ them.”

According to them, the university management in DELSU has queued into the SMART agenda of the Okowa-led government, as it now runs a skill acquisition centre where indigenes of the university’s host community, numbering 75 and others are beneficiaries from the training, saying that the best performing students will be giving starter packs at the end of the programme.

Speakers include the Executive Secretary of Delta State Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency Mrs Shimite Bello, Mr Segun Manuel The Chief Solutions Provider, Smogville Solutions LTD, and other notable speakers.
