A huge cracking recently occurred in Kenya. Apparently, a similar cracking had occurred in Ethiopia 12 years ago at a place called Afar

A crack in the Earth’s crust – which could be the forerunner to a new ocean – ripped open in just days in 2005, a new study suggests. The opening, located in the Afar region of Ethiopia, presents a unique opportunity for geologists to study how mid-ocean ridges form.

The crack is the surface component of a continental rift forming as the Arabian and African plates drift away from one another. It began to open up in September 2005, when a volcano at the northern end of the rift, called Dabbahu, erupted.

Kenya ...

What I find curious is scientists talking about the fissures having been filled with ash, then when it rained, the ash was swept away leaving the crack behind. Seriously? (Well, the ash was so old that it lay as a layer beneath the soil)

Why do we need the alternate theory? undecided The scientists have differing views.

Any who,

We’re seeing a crack that in all likelihood formed over many thousands of years or hundreds of thousands of years,” Andrews told CBS.
not all scientists are convinced the crack was the result of tectonic rifts. While geologist Wendy Bohon told CBS that she also believes Africa in the process of splitting in two, she said the formation of the crack was more likely caused by heavy rain storms.

The thing is, that science had stated before that the rift valley was splitting, but at the rate of two inches per year. This sudden monumental separations are not "scientifically" sound. Someone will have to change their theory. Plus, the residents report a quake right before the split.

Kenyan crack ... it was so sudden, split a major highway with vehicles still on it that sank. Due to the importance of the highway, the Kenyan government filled the gap with stones to restore connectivity. It would have brought the country to a halt.

I've lived inside the rift valley for afew years and there were massive earthquakes especially in wet seasons. None ever made the news. Earthquakes never make news when they happen within the rift and the people seem unworried.

The Narok-Longonot-Naivasha-Elementaita-Nakuru-Magadi area of the Rift Valley is very unstable. This is the reason we see Mt Longonot releasing fumes and Lake Magadi experiencing 300 earthquakes in a year. When we see cracks occurring, we should be worried,” he said.

Noting that the Kenyan Rift Valley was the largest opening in the world, Prof Odada warned that the instability caused by tectonic and seismic movements was a ticking time bomb.

We need more on this zimbabwe crack. But the country is on the Rift

An inselberg or monadnock is an isolated rock hill, knob, ridge, or small mountain that rises abruptly from a gently sloping or virtually level surrounding plain.

Rock crack leaves UMP villagers in shock
Jan 18, 2018 | Local News | 2 |

Villagers in the Mashambanhaka area of Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) have been left in awe after a doomed inselberg developed a crack which has left the community searching for answers.

It is a phenomenon that will need both geographical scientists and traditional experts, to interrogate and present the fact, if it is to give closure to the community of Mashambanhaka in UMP.

The cause is not known but villagers say on the sunset of January 11, they heard a blast, which echoed beyond 20 kilometres and the next thing the doomed inselberg, had a crack stretching over 20 metres.

The argument is could it be climate change effects or traditional signals?

In all this the villagers are appealing for expert assistance to establish the real cause of the cracks which have left the ground shaking and they are afraid a repeat of the phenomenon will have devastating effects.

The place has almost become a tourist attraction as people from the area and passers-by are thronging the doomed inselberg to get a feel of this rare occurrence.

Whether there is a scientific or traditional explanation this incident has left this usually quite community searching for answers.

This isn't really new. The first split happened during the tower of babel. Second happened when India split from Africa and merged into Asia. Do you not realise why they are called a subcontinent instead of a country? (technically speaking). Scientifically speaking, India is still pushing deep into Asia, and that is why there are earthquakes and tremors much in that region. Anyway, thanks for this info. grin

It will take thousands or millions for those areas to be fully separate from mainland Africa. Humans will have dramatically changed by then.

It's not just in Africa ....

Similar cracks in US, Saudi, Chile. There are also reports of massive sink holes swallowing water bodies all over the world. The red Sea is one... which means that the world entire surface is rearranging itself. I guess it's time for a new world cool

Watch the video from beginning to - 5:34 for the story of the earth fissures

Google "disappearing lakes" for the stories of sinkholes suddenly appearing and swallowing lakes overnight.

Antarctica and Arizona (US) earth splits

I think we'll see a massive climatic/ environmental shift. Enough to change powers, governments

If the same is happening on the ocean floor, massive cracks swallowing waters into the earth, then the earth is about to look very different in a very short while. Already government services like water supply in some places has become impossible with dissappearing lakes, countries are getting split and highways suddenly stopped. Lets sit back and watch cool

Pakistan's is afew hundred miles!! shocked

Another large earth fissure appears to have formed after recent heavy rain in Pakistan's Balochistan Province.

It is not yet clear when the crack formed but according to Samaa, it is the longest known in Quila Abdullah. The fissure apparently spans several hundred miles, sparking panic among local residents. smiley

The earth will be just fine when all waters, rivers and lakes disappear into earth fissures. The soil is loosening up, and the water will come through it in the form of mist cool

We are still living with the remnant waters of Noah's flood as lakes and rivers and oceans. But there was a time when all that did not exist.

But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
