Sir, it is not hazardous for it to be used in commercial vehicles in Nigeria, provided the canisters or cylinders are installed in the right place, with the correct fittings and proper safety gadgets. sad Putting it under the passengers' seat, as seen in that picture, is totally wrong! shocked It should be in the trunk, and covered with a fire-retardant casing. Once it has been properly installed, by a qualified autogas technician, you would not even see the pipes or hose coming out, as it is carefully screwed or bolted down and tucked away from where it can be seen. So which passenger would fiddle with it?

I know how and where it fits my dad purchased a 1994 right hand drive Vw sharan. Before it was converted and the tank is well fitted.

Im just glad you noticed the same thing i did its why i mentioned commercial especially one that has its fittings all exposed. So tell me a passenger cant fiddle with this one?

Just bear in mind that a lot of these commercial drivers ignore safety. Many cars dont have working wipers. And passengers always fiddle with stuff like this. Plus the tank ain't tucked away. It this vehicle had a trunk would be safer but instead its a seat.

So tell me is this one in particular safe?
Use your eyes and tell me this guy is playing safe. This one that has gala and bigi cola beside it. Some passengers may put a bag there and force it in thinking it empty. Even vibration an affect this one. Have u seen the nature of some buses?

Guy, you are still saying the same thing. sad And I agreed with you in my last post, that this particular one was badly fitted. undecided But where I disagree, is where you said it should not be fitted in commercial vehicles. It can be fitted, if the installation is done properly in accordance with safety guidelines, using the right equipment, valves and casing, by placing it in the trunk, where it cannot be tampered with.

Here is a picture of a vehicle installed with CNG cannisters, in the booth and covered by a fire retardant casing. You would not even see the pipes, after the enclosure is covered up.

Chain!!! Must you believe everything?

Anyways taxis have been using gas to power their vehicles for quite a long time now. The owner or CEO of CNG the company that runs the installation and operations of the device is from Edo state and he decided to kick off the stuff in Benin. They have up-to six stations across Benin alone. As at then it was 150k to install which will be deducted as you buy gas. That is if you intend buying 1000 gas, you will be given 800 worth while 200 is used to offset your installation price. The cars still run on petrol sha. Once the gas is finished you simply switched to petrol

those buses don't have enough space in the boot for the cylinder
Boot is a good position but in the absence of that, other location, like under seat can also be used, provided the seat is not touching the CNG cylinder, which is always ensured.Remember CNG is lighter than air and will always disperse quickly into atmosphere any event of leakage....
CNG Cylinders is very thick(12mm +)specially designed for extreme conditions and very rugged too.

CNG as vehicular fuel has been in use in Benin City for over 7 years and no explosion report.

CNG very safe!!!

CNG is very save, explosion is the last thing that can happen if you take a simple safety measure. CNG cylinders, unlike LPG Cylinders,is designed to withstand extreme handling situations.
Who told you LPG cylinders in cars, are not designed to withstand extreme handling situations? CNG cylinders are only thicker than LPG cylinders, because CNG is stored at much higher pressures than LPG. CNG is stored at pressures that can be more than 10x that of LPG. LPG pressure is less than 2 MPa whilst CNG is 20 – 25 MPa. But LPG has a higher energy content than CNG, and you can get more mileage from LPG than CNG.

There are over 20 local government areas in Lagos State stretching from Ibeju-Lekki and Epe, to Ikorodu and Badagry. How many CNG refueling stations are located within Lagos State?

LPG is not only used for cooking. Guy, both CNG and LPG can be used to power or fuel cars. undecided It depends on the type of conversion kit, used in your vehicle. sad In Lagos, there are more stations selling LPG autogas, than CNG autogas. Secondly, it is easier to transport LPG autogas from the gas depot using gas haulage trucks, than it is to transport CNG autogas from a depot/CNG mother station to a retail station, using specialised cascades.

It is cheaper, and more environmentally friendly to run your cars on autogas than petrol. wink The conversion process, turns your vehicle into a dual-fuel one, which means you can either use petrol or gas to fuel the car. In times of fuel scarcity, this is always a good thing, because instead of queuing at petrol stations for ages, you can simply switch to gas and go on your way. For some conversion kits however, you still need to have a small quantity of petrol in your tank, before you can switch over to gas, in order to power your vehicle. undecided
Pls i didnt say lpg is not used for vehicles or cannot be used for vehicles Nipco also converts cars to use lpg in this same station. What i said was the gas in the picture of autoreportng is CNG. Some people were mentioning one coolant gas.

1)CNG cylinders are designed to handle more extreme conditions than LPG.
2) for the same cylinder lpg gas takes more gas than cng hence lpg is more expensive.
E
3) a cylinder of lpg is 3800 while the same cylinder size of CNG is 900 naira.
4) lpg has higher calorific value or energy content than CNG hence a higher risk of explosion.
5) there is only 1 cng station for vehicular fuels and it is located at ibafo adjacent to MFM prayer city. Its called Green gas limited. So if you ply this route often it will be of immense benefit to you to convert your car to run on either petrol or natural gas. Whichever one is available in your vehicle you can select by just the push of a button.
6) natural gas is the cheapest source of fuel in Nigeria and we have it in super abundance, trillions of standarf cubic feet in reserves.
7) its the cleanest combustible fuel for power and enrrgy generation in the world today.
I can go on and on

And I still have issues with your No. 1. sad CNG cylinders are not designed to handle more extreme conditions than LPG. CNG cylinders are merely thicker than LPG cylinders, because of the pressure of CNG gas itself.

1). LPG has almost 3x the energy density with 25MJ/L for LPG versus only 9MJ/L for CNG. undecided The big difference is in volumetric energy density. This is why CNG cylinders have a tare weight approximately 3x heavier, than comparable capacity LPG cylinders.

In other words, for comparable capacity cylinders, the LPG cylinders will last more than twice as long as CNG cylinders. Finally, the equipment to fill the CNG cylinders is very expensive – much more than LPG. There is no higher risk of explosion for LPG tanks or canisters. Risk of explosion is the same for both CNG and LPG.

2). Both CNG and LPG are both cleaner fuels than petrol or diesel. sad Assuming they have the same sized fuel tanks, LPG has a much greater cruising range, due to the higher energy content. However, CNG fuelled vehicles typically have a much larger and heavier tank, usually infringing on boot space.

Even with a larger tank, many CNG vehicles still have a diminished cruising range.

3). In the whole of Lagos, there are only 2 CNG refill stations. One is at Ilasamaja, while the other one is at Ibafo, which is even Ogun state. But in Lagos, there are over 10 LPG refueling stations, owned by both Oando and a few Forte oil stations.

A car that is converted to run on CNG in Victoria Island, would have to go all the way to Ilasamaja or Ibafo, to refuel with CNG, unlike a car that is converted to LPG in Victoria Island, which can easily refuel in Marina, Somolu and even Lekki area.

Oga, stop advertising CNG usage and installation services to me. sad There is no antagonism anywhere. From what I'm seeing here, not every vehicle is meant to use this. Car makers always make their fuel tanks or cylinders to be safely far from the occupants, like the biblical chasm in Lazarus the begger's case. If smaller buses like this should use this, it may be mounted at the rear on a suspended racket, few inches from the roof of the bus, and closed to direct sun rays and heat. And these installers should make the job neat and very secure.

I'm very interested. Why hasn't it spread to every part of the country yet? One more question, what fuel guage does it use: the one in the dashboard of the car or it comes with its own? I would love to instal on my future car, I love savings! wink

Six to seven months. I'm a commercial truck driver who's battling with a 2rz carburetor engine. It drinks petrol like crazy upon all the tuning! I'm still considering an injector, whether 2rz or 3rz.

The price will crash when it becomes a nationwide affair, when intense competition starts.

Is your truck a diesel engine or a petrol one? If it is petrol, you can convert to gas, as explained in this thread. LPG Gas conversion kits are available, just like CNG ones. But LPG refill points outnumber the CNG ones. So it would be easier to get LPG to refuel in more parts of the country, than CNG. undecided

Yes sir, it does come with an indicator. wink When the conversion kit is installed, an indicator or gauge is also installed on the dashboard, which shows you the level of gas in your tank or canister. When the gas runs out, the car just automatically switches back to running on petrol, as long as there is petrol in your fuel tank. Don' forget that after the conversion, your car or vehicle becomes a dual-fuel one, which can use either gas or petrol, during its journey. undecided

It is a good innovation that needs an adjustment.

Don't put gas cylinders underneath the seats of passengers.

where do you think the gas tank is normally

Find another place to put it outside the reach of passengers because of explosion due to leakage & phone calls..

Good Innovation but pls reposition the gas tanks outside the reach of passengers and exhaust pipe.

Place the gas tank underneath the bus and reinforce the protective barrier from leakage.

In order words, put the gas tank in another non rustable steel material in order to reinforce the protective barrier and prevent gas leakage.

Thanks
