Parent company of DSTV and Gotv, MultiChoice has revealed it is considering launching a Pay-As-You-Consume Payment feature in Nigeria.

If you are not what that means, it is more like the Pay as You Go service offered by network providers like MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9Mobile etc.

With this new option, subscribers will be able to pay for subscription based on their consumption.

This was announced by the managing director of Multichoice Nigeria – John Ugbe while speaking on the side-lines of the ongoing Digital Dialogue in Dubai, United Arab Emirates;

“Pay-as-you-consume is something we may consider, if it is technologically possible and the business model supports it, we will”

He also added that the company currently allows subscribers to suspend their subscriptions twice a year in case they are not of Africa.

If you ask me, I think this is a strategic move aimed at combating and keeping up with the competition against new telecom company, TStv. TStv decoder already have this feature, so MultiChoice is trying to make sure their customers do not go elsewhere to look for it.

They just told Nigerians what they want to hear, they didn't commit themselves to anything and never will because pay as you go will not be in their favour.
