fabre4:Yes, the vaccine does not offer 100% protection. It, however, makes the dog less likely to get infected and also gives the dog a better chance at fighting off the illness if it eventually gets infected. Having said that, stooling and vomiting doesn't necessarily equate to 'Parvo.' You need to consult your vet ASAP for proper diagnosis and treatment. Goodluck! 1 Like |

Rany4all: we have a personal doctor for the dogs and he said it isn't parvo ... I lost a dog to parvo-virus I noticed the smell of the faeces of that dog when it was stooling is the same with this one. I don't plan on losing this one o!!! I just want to know if there are other specific symptoms of parvo-virus |

fabre4:There is no specific symptom for Parvo. Symptoms include bloody foul smelling diarrhoea, severe vomiting, lack of appetite, generalized weakness and weight loss, and all of these symptoms can also be caused by several other conditions...but the good thing is that there is also no specific drug for Parvo, hence even if your vet is wrong about the diagnosis, the dog might still recover as long as it receives appropriate supportive treatment and its immune system is strong enough. |

Rany4all: thanks for the reply, that means if I give the dog parvo treatment then it could help treat any sickness with the same symptom |

fabre4:Treatment for Parvo is essentially symptomatic or supportive to keep the dog alive until hopefully the dog's immune system overpowers the virus, for instance drip is given to counter dehydration, injections are given to stop vomiting, Vit Bco is added to the drip to boost the dogs immune system, and antibiotic injections are also given to check any possible coexisting bacterial infection or prevent bacteria from adding to the workload for the immune system. So, yes, if the dog is treated for Parvo but the cause of the illness is actually a bacteria that is sensitive to the antibiotics administered, then the dog will recover, because the antibiotics will kill the bacteria. However, if the cause is something like worms, which cannot be killed by any of the drugs given in Parvo, then of course the dog may not survive. 1 Like 1 Share |
