There are two levels: (a) The leader as a follower and (b) The follower as a leader

Every leader must first of all be a follower. Men will follow a leader to the degree to which he is led. An unled leader is dangerous to follow. We are first called to be followers of Christ. Jesus as a leader was a follower of the Holy Spirit. Men are not just to follow us because we are in front of them. They follow us because we are following Christ.

David as a leader was a sheep following the Lord (Psalm 23). Now, the leader must be very careful about who and what he is following because that is what the people following him become. Who and what are you following? You cannot profess to be following Christ and have a worldly example in the corner of your heart. Men are to follow us because we are following Christ.

From the passage in John 7,Jesus took practical steps to preserve his life. There is a time for confrontation; there is a time for relocation. Jesus as a leader knew the difference between confrontation and relocation.

When the Bible says be wise as serpents and harmless as doves, we were being told to know where we don’t need to operate conspicuously, but be harmless doves among other saints. Moreso, because we are in the midst of wolves we should be careful of wanting to show off. When you like to show off as a Christian leader, you place yourself in a zone where the enemy can attack you cheaply.

PRAYER: Lord, I submit to every leadership structure you have positioned for me and I receive wisdom to take critical decisions in Jesus’ name. Amen!
