The Governor Willie Obiano has renamed Abakaliki Street, Awka as Club zone.The governor made the declaration over the weekend when he visited the area.

Abakaliki Street which was once an obscure lonely road where all forms of crime and criminality held sway had developed to a beauty with dazzling streetlights shining at nights.

Also evident was the high rate at which residential and commercial structures were being put up as well as the nightlife that was in full swing as operators of relaxation centers rake in so much money.

Governor Obiano had arrived Gaga Lounge, one of the Clubs along the street in the company of Service Commanders in the State, some top State Government functionaries and his friends.

Speaking after renaming the street, Governor Obiano said his government will sustain its efforts at promoting security and creating a business friendly environment that will attract investors into the state.

He observed that with the security his government had put in place, funseekers and holiday makers now come into the state to enjoy, a development that has increased growth of the local economy.

The governor explained that the renaming of the street was to reflect its true status, assuring that his government will put in place more facilities to make the area conducive.

A friend of the Governor's and former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter-Party Affairs, Senator Ben Ndi Obi acknowledged that business is done 24 hours on the street, commending Governor Obiano for his huge investments in security.

On his part, the Owner of the facility, Mr Buchi Obi who spoke through the Special Assistant to the Governor on Agricultural Input, Mr Tochukwu Obi recalled how dreaded the area was before Governor Obiano intervened and pointed out that the value chain around the former Abakaliki Street story has great implications for wealth creation and overall economic emancipation in the Awka Capital Territory.
