President Buhari dismissed fears and once again proved that he is open to any initiative that would further the interest of the younger generation by approving the 'Not to young to run' Bill. The President in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. in commemoration of the Democracy Day on Tuesday vowed to sign the 'Not to young to run' Bill into law. He said he will be joined in a few days time by many promising young Nigerians to sign into Bill into law.

The bill which was first passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives in July 2017 seeks to modify the 1999 Constitution, which will reduce the minimum age requirement for elective positions in the country. This amendment will relieve advocates of the revolutionary new law which will in turn help to relax the stringent and discriminatory provisions of the Constitution. Since the bill was passed about 25 states, representing more than two-thirds of the country’s 36 states, had adopted the bill as at March ending.

This 'Not to young to run bill' passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives is the outcome of relentless efforts by the alliance of more than 40 youth-based initiatives across the country.

The President in his speech described the commemoration of 2018 Democracy Day, which is the third anniversary of his administration, as a celebration of freedom for Nigerians. He said the celebration was also a recommitment by his government to keep its promise to lead Nigeria into a new era of justice and prosperity.
