A CALL TO SUPPORT THE BEAUTIFICATION OF ABIA WITH PALM TREES

A couple of weeks ago, the ministry of Agriculture Abia state, announced its readiness to plant the high yielding tenera seedlings raised at the nursery farm in Ahiaba Umueze.

According to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike, the targets for the planting of these seedlings are office premises, market squares, churches etc.

Yesterday, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu kick started the project by planting tenera seedlings at the premises of Vicar Hope Foundation.

The idea is to have a healthy environment with viable trees, in this case, palm trees.

WHY RESIDENTS MUST SUPPORT THIS PROJECT

The state government have plans to develop a commercially viable palm production, and the goal is to raise 7.5million high yielding tenera seedlings. It is a way of diversifying our economy.
About 66,000 hectares of land would be required to successfully plant these seedlings. The only way to achieve this, is by utilizing every available square meter.

Aside its natural role of beautifying our environment, we would as well have a robust economy both as individuals and as a state.

In addition, we would enjoy the numerous environmental benefits of trees, and that includes; Provision of food and shelter, Purification of air pollution and regulation of environmental temperature.

Palm trees play critical roles in the quality of human life as well as the environmental well-being of our communities. Its full potential and economic value cannot be overemphasized.

Support the government in this quest. You can acquire the seedlings for yourself and make it an enterprise.
