I'm not sure i understand you. Do you mean 5k to cover feeding and transport? Then you must be joking. If you must get an escort be ready to fork out no less than 10k. Or you just drive it yourself & trust in God.

a friend of mine did something similar, i think he paid somewhere around 25k inc feeding ant tp back.

but i hear it is pointless, since customs will still bug you if they want to. mopol or no.

i tried it several times and i paid the army man withing the range of 25k to 30k excluding feeding and fueling the car. he wore the uniform and had a written note from his oga(colonel) being my friend to deliver the car to port harcourt that he was on strict order. thats how i normally deliver my cars to PH. grin

Frankly, what i would advice you do is get an Army escort and they get paid at least N20k to N25k to cover everything.
Mopol(Police) ?Risky.

Sorry guys, pardon my ignorance, why the use of the uniform men to drive the cars?

Also, would they deliver a ride from Lagos to warri or any other part of Nigeria and what is the cost, inclusive of every other cost
Re: Escorting A Tokunbo Car From Lagos To Port-harcourt by femmy2010(m): 8:20pm On Jun 01, 2010
My Greatest,
They use uniform men to prevent securities operatives stationed on our highway from seizing a newly bought car that custom duties was not paid on.
Re: Escorting A Tokunbo Car From Lagos To Port-harcourt by Fhemmmy: 8:27pm On Jun 01, 2010
Oh OK, but it could be prevented by just paying the custom duties then.

Many buy UN-dutiable cars below the stipulated 10year and many want to save these money that would have been used to pay the duties.BUYERS AND SELLERS are always aware,

Yes sir and skipping the payment of some fees is what makes Cotonou cars a bit reasonable.

Re: Escorting A Tokunbo Car From Lagos To Port-harcourt by Emperoh(m): 8:02am On Jun 02, 2010
Fhemmy et al!!!

Delivering a car to the East or outside Lagos is not a job for the faint hearted!!
I have done this a couple of times, the last one being Saturday May 22nd, and i have decided i won't do this AGAIN!!!
Its not worth my peace of mind. So whether its Cotonou or TINCAN cleared You should get a uniformed officer to deliver such a car.

If the car is registered, your greatest headache is Ogun state and maybe Benin. After Ogun, N200 matter.
But Ogun is the worse and there are between 12 and 15 Police check-points in Ogun alone and also 2 Customs check points at
the Toll Gate and Ogbere, there could also be another one at Igbokoda, then Okada(not constant) Edo State and Benin By pass and Former Toll Gate.

The likely thing you will hear from the Custom Officers is that you didn't pay the correct excise duty on the vehicle.
i.e you shortchanged the Customs service. . . . . . the 'fine' for this is between 2-5k depending on your negotiating skills.
Customs hardly pays any heed or respect to other uniformed officers like Police and Army but sure do have some level of respect for the Military.
So, if your car na Cotonou, abeg, find BETTER commissioned MILITARY officer NOT Police. Whatever his rank, UNLESS he is driving the car ALONE!!

The above is how to avoid customs. Bear in mind, Customs will ask for the clearing documents as long as the car was registered in the last One month.

If na pure tokunbo from Tincan being driven without number, and u did ur clearing wella, don't fear, it won't be impounded, but u must DROP.

But if you really did shortchange or say na Cotonou motor and you didn't pay duty, abeg find Military man and soak ur chaplet for water. grin

Police.
Whether na Tincan cleared, Cotonou or Lome grin you are most likely to drop!!!
The major bottleneck for new cars is Ogun state. The trick employed is trying everything thing in the book to find a loop hole in ur vehicle documents
From not signing where u are meant to, to ur tinted glass permit(on cars applicable) being fake(u must give at least a 5day space between date of vehicle registration and date of tint permit else, na wahala that will make u N5k poorer) and then to cars carrying registration plates of other states aside Lagos and Ogun, they will query you with 'Registration in Absentia'. Meaning, that you are meant to take the said vehicle to the licencing office for sighting before being registered. I encountered this one in my last trip and i was fleeced N5k. And then to other sundry charges all aimed at getting money from you.
And the 'fine' ranges from N1k - N10k depending on your skills in negotiation and the Officer you met.
Again, if the car na unregistered Tincan cleared tokunbo, you must be dropping N200.00 at every check point else they will be stopping and checking
your documents and wasting your time unnecessarily!!

But their case na moi-moi if you have a uniformed officer with you. They will only beg you to drop something!!!
All the above is meant for you if you driving the car yourself without any uniformed officer.

So, back to your question. Bros, no officer whether Police or Military even Civil Defence grin grin will collect N5k from you to deliver a car to Abj, SE or SS.
If you are gonna drive, budget  like 15k if he's gonna drive, 25-30k to sort himself out excluding fueling the car.

Call Inspired and ask him how much he pays his Military driver to deliver cars to Warri and PH, to have an idea of what am saying.
By and large, for your peace of mind, get a uniformed officer(military). But if you must do it yourself, be 'over'sure that your papers are in ORDER.

Its easier to drive an unregistered tokunbo car than a registered one. If your papers are in order, you just have customs to sort out!!

My little experience!!

you have indeed said it as it is and am sure the poster must have an insight into what to expect.
Re: Escorting A Tokunbo Car From Lagos To Port-harcourt by igahdavid(m): 10:58am On Jun 02, 2010
I have driven a cotonou toks car twice from lagos to enugu and the experience is nothing to write home about. There is more than 200 police check points and each wants to collect 200 Naira. Plus 5 customs checking points trying to collect 5k each. Your best bet is to look for a military man to do the driving and like Emperoh said "soak your chaplet fo water"

If I buy another car from cotonou I will drive it again myself. Nothing compares to the ADRENALINE RUSH. Trying to beat as many police check points and customs. W O A H ! shocked

@Emperoh I bet you will still do it again
Re: Escorting A Tokunbo Car From Lagos To Port-harcourt by femmy2010(m): 11:04am On Jun 02, 2010
Ighadavid,i guess you find it funny because you have the funding to always replace the car if ever impounded or you are a member of the police family but many have neither the first not a member of the second.
Re: Escorting A Tokunbo Car From Lagos To Port-harcourt by igahdavid(m): 11:46am On Jun 02, 2010
I am not a police officer neither do I have money to replace an impounded car. But the truth is that you cant pay them all. you try to beat as many as possible and then pay the rest. Just ask anyone that crosses car for you.

Igahdavid
The car that will push me to do this again must really be worth it. It had better be a road Monster.
Again, i won't cross a car that didn't come in thru TIncan or is above 10years.

My last trip upper sturday, I beat all the Check Points in Ogun State. And man, was it risky?
I won't exchange the adrenaline rush for my life. . . . i also never try to beat customs check points. They will come after you and will shot at you
But lets see how it goes man. It can be fun and bitter!!

I won't forget my last trip to PH last November. It was extremely bitter!!
Good point you made though!!

@Emperoh
You surely have spoken as a veteran.

From my little experience this January, surely its not a job for the faint hearted.

I drove a Tincan cleared, registered (dec' 2009) car to the east and it was really an experience for me

By the time we got stopped by the first MOPOL check point in Sagamu, my fearful elder brother suggeseted that we should better go back to Lagos, pack the ride and take public transport, considering the number of check points still ahead. can you imagine how fearful folks can be?

But for me Combine my heart of steel with the adrenaline rush of cabling a new car that long distance, i was ready for whatever. I set my foot on gas after settling with #200. From there, it was from one check point to another, some #100, others #200 according to how the Mopols were feeling, spending average of 5mins at each point

But that first stopping also did something good for me, it proved to me that my papers are all genuine and correct (because you can never tell what these licencing agents do when you give them money to do the right thing)

Another trick i used is that because my company is a well respected one, i just wore my Id card on the neck and once they stop me, they first of all exchange banters before asking for something for 'd boyz'

It was only a bunch of criminals in Edo state(local police for that matter, they ordinarily have no business on the high way) that insisted that the customs certificate number was not written on my papers ( i wasn't travelling with the customs papers).
For real that guy nearly took 1hr from us because he was demanding #10,000. can you imagine
After much negotiation, i had to grudginly part with #2,000 as time was running out.

It was really a nice experience for me.

^^^^^ i hate does punk -backside local olopa on the High-way,  they are the once that would tell you to follow them to their yeye police station inside one God-knows here village  that's is totally off your route!  They know you are in a hurry and they have all the time in the world!!!,

for the few time i had to move a ride from tin can to PHC, i just paid 25k and i don’t stress my self to follow the ride. I fly and await delivery of the car to me and leave the boys to sort them self. The head ache most times is not worth it!!!

Do anyone has a connection to some of the Military boys then, cos i might be needing their assistance, as most of our rides are doing out of Lagos - Abuja, Warri, P.Harcourt and Owerri.
Please, if you have the connection, hook me up . . , Femmmy.moto@gmail.com

Quite an interesting and engaging conversation---reflecting the Nigerian realism. Hey, what's this customs certificate number that must appear on the registration papers? Which of the papers precisely?

just a word of advice/caution, early this yr, some1 was killed and his body dumped in the bush by his friend [ a customs man] who he asked to help drive his car back from cotonu, the so called friend took possesion of the car after killing his friend n was enjoying the car for about 3 months b4 he was finally caught, and interrogated , that was how the truth came out.
so all u peeps soliciting 4 strangers c.um army men to help drive ur cars, be very careful,
my best advice is, let the army man drive the car alone. the boys at the road block always delay u more if the sense that the owner of the car is in the car
