I don't know the truth behind the whole thing but one funny I know over years of living in south south is that, you will be amazed their elders and chiefs have collected the so called compensation funds and siphoned it. That is what a natural occurrence over there. Also, if truly the state govt hasn't compensated them, it should. And they should also make their demands reasonable cos you could be hearing them demanding for 50million naira per plot. I will never forget the day Ameachi awarded the elelenwo - Apajo junction repair contract and sentraco were to rush it overnight for one day, my south south brothers all came out in the middle of the night with wrappers and towels round their waists at 1.00am demanding sentraco compensated them for their bad roads government paid the contractor for to fix. I couldn't stop laughing.

I remember then when it happened. It could be funny if its a unaffected person, but South south people always do this. They like to frustrate, because the longer the delay, the more cost is incurred by the Contractor

siting of an airport there is a life time entitlement if they are not lazy and can think with their brain.

You do know policies have to be applicable in all conditions right?
Think of a scenario where the land owners have established homes as well as community on the designated area. Would you expect the Govt to scuttle all of that irrespective of the lasting impact it would have on them just so the development can benefit a select few?

Compensation is the common approach and it ought to be honored

You are wrong brother.
What if it were your land, would you fold your hands and not expect some reasonable compensations from the government? The airport is a commercial venture that will generate revenue for the state government in the future. And maybe bring development to the host community. But this is not always the case. They deserve to be compensated. As for me, I won't love to have an airport close to my home. The noise pollution is something else

seems you are one of those lying down in that picture. Those pushing them for their entitlement will not gI've them a kobo. It will be shared among the elders and the notables. At the end of it all, government will operate with free hand and will always remind them of what they have collected. Don't eat your tomorrow today

Bayelsa State Airport land owners have blocked the main entrance of the Airport as the State Government failed to compensate them.

According to reports, the saga all started when the state government failed to compensate them as agreed last month. They said Seriake Dickson, the current governor of the state - is unrealistic and cannot be trusted in any agreement as he has not even given them hope if the compensation will be paid sooner or later.

Meanwhile, the protesters landed at the area with mosquito nets, bags of rice other food stuffs and cooking items.

As the situation was so intense, security agencies were deployed by the State government to douse the tension but to no avail.

Even in the Holy Bible it is written that give unto Ceaser what belongs to Ceaser. So, those people are right on one side and on the other side, they should not forget the Land Use Act of 1978 clearly stated that all Lands belong to the Government.

This has nothing to do with the Airport...the pictures were taken during the protests at NDU the op is just a mischievous and daft blogger. The Airport was the only place they could draw the State Governor's attention.

They need to change their ways and stop all these ''our our our'' belief. That is one of the main challenges development in that area has faced over years. And like I said, the elders are not helping a bit. They are the biggest betrayers and selling off the future of the unborn generations due to their greed. Govt should also learn to do the needful correctly ad channel funds meant for the masses to the masses not to individuals.
