I AM LOOKING AT STARTING MY OWN PHOTOCOPYING BUSINESS WHERE PEOPLE CAN COME IN AND USE THE PHOTOCOPIER, LAMINATE, BINDING ETC.

Please advice on how much I would need to start up. I already have my own business premises in the heart of Lagos. What sort of photocopying machines do I need to buy. How many machines do I need to run it successfully? If I employ staff to run the machines, how do I monitor the sales in my absence without them taking some of the money and cheating on me. Is there a slot machine photocopier in Nigeria that I can buy like those in South Africa? What do you think the prospects are? Do you think this is a good idea?

I NEED AS MUCH ADVISE AS I CAN GET FROM THE EXPERIENCED AND THE INEXPERIENCED. THANKS NAIRALANDERS.

This is a nice business for small scale enterprises

To the level of my experience  it depend of the environment and the caliber of your customer

determine your service.

some environment like student dominant you need like Tokunbo photocopy and at least three photocopy machine it depend of the population

but if its on business and solid buisness area you need one Tokunbo and one new photocopy without mind the price

1. where you're dealing with business men and women wealthy enough to buy one, not that there company can not buy one but is out of agenda for now. The type of quality services you give them determine may be they need photocopy machine badly or not but if your services is good they wont mind the price as much you give them the best this will rob there mind that they can purchase one. But if your serivces is low and low in quality one day another person will take over or they try to get one and they dont patronise any more.

2. where student dominate pls dont try to buy new machine because you move on a competative environment where price is matter if you increase nobody will patronse you and if you have one machine that can not render service to two or three people at the same time they gone else where

3. I think sharp is the best and also dont be deceive if you want to employ try and staff experience photocopy man and specialist on a stain machine name without that you will spend all you capital cost and profit on repairing dont let any body deceive you on this that is a small job. The machine always get fort when is highly needed that is where experience is need.

4. dont forget your standby Generator

i think i crash you brain small this is one of my proffesion dont mind me

My guess is that you want to set up a copy shop and I believe Sewa gave you a very good advice.

Let me add that if you are going for tokunbo copiers you have to talk to some copy-machine repairers around your area in Nigeria, they will tell you the best brand to buy (which must be Mita or Sharp).

If you have enough capital and want to make use of new copiers then go for Xerox and make sure you deal with Xerox authorized reseller (http://www.xhsnigeria.com) so that you will be able to benefit from their "after sales support service" which you should understand and discuss in details with the reseller before buying their products.

As per how to monitor the sales of your photocopiers, coin-operated photocopiers suppose to be the best but I doubt whether such system is obtainable in Nigeria. Resellers of new photocopiers should know better.

Look at the website of a copy shop in Port Harcourt and learn something from there. http://www.nubuck.com/

That's my 2 cents.

well good one you've got there, it all depends on ur location as earlier said by the other person. Since you got a place in mind then that shld also influence the number of copiers you need buy. But say like three averagely will do, but like i said, it still has to do with ur location.

How to monitor. Each copier has go a meter which reads the number of pages rolled out per time. Now the location of the meter has to do with the machine you are using. You can ask the suppliers for the location. Now at the beginning of the business u need to take the meter reading from the time you officially declare it opened for business. Thereafter you ask your staff in-charge to always keep the closing meter reading on your record book and also wastes made out of the copies should be kept and noted down accordingly for your evaluation. Note, ensure you keep the waste away from the staff's reach to avoid repeatition of the same waste paper being presented to you. Now, this all you know common sense will guide you through cos its a whole journal. This is applicable to the copier.

A fairly used copier in Lagos (on assumption, which could be wrong) should be 50k, a good one. But preferrably go for a new one. That will help boost patronage.

Laminating, Binding and son on, I guess i'm exhausted. someone should help me out.

Other measures could be applied though, i don't stay in Lag to know what is in vogue there. On a final note don't be smart on ur staffs or they'll show u they are smarter.

All d best

@kellofish, the fact that a business idea has already been covered does not mean that other people cannot start the same business, majority of successful businesses in the world are quite similar and identical, it depends on how you run and manage yours.  Look at Banks, there are loads of them everywhere identically doing the same things and majority are very successful, restaurants, shops, airlines etc. to mention but a few. My mentality is very different, so I am not too bothered about that. Thanks. All I needed was some advice, not some negative comment.

Hello friend,
I hope this information will be useful to you.
I am into photocopy business for some time now before I started my business a friend directed me to buy from a major photocopy machine importer, MR. DALLAS NNAKWE , in Lagos ,they have good machines and have their company service engineers . I can assure that with the services rendered to me they are very good and have good machines, and offer you good advice on how to go about your business, they also delivered my machine to Enugu were i needed it .They could send it to you were you need it. moreover their prices are cheap and affordable since they are the direct major importers, and do not have to buy within Nigeria to re-sell. Try calling this number 08033225508 To reach the company manager.
Am sending this to assist the new biez , who still need assistance.

Information is power, any time any day

@Adycy Rather than giving phone number and if you want to convince us that DAllas is for real, why not post the physical address in Lagos?

I don't know how people feel when they post a phone number for communication with the rising cases of scam and fraud.

Phone number to me is anonymous. Pls let's get the physical address.
