Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other financial institutions, Rafiu Ibrahim (APC, Kwara) has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that over 6,403 projects were introduced into the budget at the National Assembly.

Reacting in a phone interview, Ibrahim said: “Why did he sign it? If he has so much reservations, he shouldn’t have signed it. He cannot continue to disparage the integrity of the National Assembly.

“We will not agree with our leadership to continue to bend backward for the President. Now he is talking as if it was our doing which is very dishonest of the President. In fact, I’m very disappointed in the President who we so much hold in high esteem. “All the amendments done to the budget were in consonance with the executive. The adjustment was based on benchmark and the details are available.”

On the president’s plans to send supplementary budget to National Assembly, he said, “ He has to bring it with all honesty by saying that he wants additional projects but if he puts it on our necks that, it is our faults, we will not allow our leadership to bend the way they used to.”

Contacted, the spokesperson of the Senate, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC, Niger) said: “My colleague’s response suffices and the Appropriation Committee Chairmen (Senate and House) will give more detailed response by Friday Insha Allah”.

Everything about Aso Rock and NASS is confusing people. But the job of a lawmaker is to sign and let the people hold the government responsible if it fails.

Everybody in this country dont know their job very shocking. When did Nigerians parliament turned to executive and executive turned to parliament. Very soon ministers will be signing and making laws.

See as they tactfully listed South projects as the ones affected by the budget.

The budget is already dead on arrival

They are playing with our heads. All these budget issues are just to make buhari appear honest and vote worthy. Buhari knew and agreed to those changes in the budget. They all share the money together. Nigerians, use your heads.

Nothing surprising here.

I advise you to go check the meaning of appropriation. The legislators are closer to their constituents than the presidency. They feel their pulse and know what they need. Don't expect them to swallow the bill hook, line and sinker; else what we'll have is a dictatorial government.

Tell this to the dogs besides it is pulse not pores.

The looters in the house claim the projects inserted are indeed the priority of their constituencies .

There you have it.

He had no choice than to sign because there is no time for any amendment again. The federal government will have to shut down by July 1st if there is no functional budget by June 31st. The national assembly knew this and deliberately delayed the passage of the budget till this late time. Even after passage, they held on to it for another two weeks before it was transmitted to the president. This is a well planned game by the National assembly.

I wonder why our leaders don't value the people who voted them into power again as soon as they attained the post,,,you cant imagine the deputy speaker involved in the passage of budget where a major project was to be done in his region [construction of the Terminal building at Enugu Airport],where the budget worth 200b naira was cut to 500m naira,,tell me ,how would mr president execute such a project...and others like that....

Its a lie local government are dont fool us here. So some of them that only turn up during elections know what they need who do you think you are talking to seriously you are mad you are a thief. When the economy fails who do we blame.
The NASS has NO business in telling executives what to do but to make sure all due processes are followed. They can recommend thats their only functions. If their wasnt anything fishy they wont get themselves involved in budget issues. They are foolish sir like you otherwise they would be getting themselves involved in proper law making duties not duplicating duties. Tell them to show us the book of the funds giving to them every year.

If you read the statements from Buhari when he signed it ,,he said to avoid unnecessary delay again ,that was why he signed it .....this is the budget that has been submitted to the national assembly since november 7,..it was passed after 90 days by the house....

I sincerely do not know how some people see things............ Even if you dont like the president on a personal note, you shouldn't allow your sentiment overshadow your sense of judgement.......

How is it PMB's fault for signing the Budget even though he is not satified with it?... he has no choice than to do so.

This budget was presented to the National Assembly since Novembr 27th 2017, the fastest ever, but only for them to return it about 6months later, half way through the year. knowing fully well that this should be passed as early as possible so as for it to be implemented on time.

And when they eventually returned it, they cut off the amount to some major projects drastically, and added to thier own money, making them get about 1bn per annum..

Funny enough, some people here wont see anything wrong with that or the fact that some projects that could have been executed in their own consistuency has been rendered almost impossible by their own "consistuency representatives" bcoz of their pure hatred for the president.

IF WE SEE TRUTH MAKE WE TALK, MAKE WE NO ALLOW SAY BECAUSE WE NO LIKE PERSON MAKE WE COVER THE TRUTH
