Don't pick range. Pick a figure. Tell them 250k. If u are their best during d interview, they wl tell u wat they can offer. It's better to price high than low. Pricing low can downgrade u and wl forever hunt you if u later found out they can offer more. Be smart. 1 Like |

Bros.....for a 5star hotel and with the roles attached to the position, 300k-350k is the deal. Most hotels pay in the range of 220k-250k for that position 2 Likes |

fruqy: I was in this situation 2 weeks ago, I got insider info that other managers are being paid 200k BUT the IT guy that is resigning is being paid 75k. So I leverage on the info and told them I am currently earning 80k Where I am coming from, and I look at nothing less than 150k. They said 100k, I stood my ground that 150k. My brother, I was given my appointment letter few days ago, to resume next month. So, you shouldn't go below 150k, mind you...you will be on probation for 6 months, which IF confirmed and play office politics well [Hotel job is like that] , you will definitely get your salary increased. |

Give them a range of 250k - 300k, then tell them you expect subsequent increase in the future. this will make them know that you are entitled to an increase. Most times, why they ask this question of how much do you want us to pay you, they want to prevent the issue of 1. subsequent increase in salary since you are the one choosing your salary scale. 2. They wanna see if you actually know your worth. NB: you were supposed to find out the salary scale for you job role before now, just talk with a worker there or a cleaner or a waiter and ask them what the pay is like for different position, you should be able to get a clue of what they pay you job role. |

romme2u:You are right. You spoke my mind. How can you be a senior IT personnel and you dont know your worth. Are you a starter? How many years of professional experience do you have and how much were you earning in your previous job. These are some of the factors to consider 1 Like 1 Share |

I don't think 200k is too small for a start as an IT manager for a 5 star hotel. I used to work as the IT manager of a 4 star hotel while in Nigeria and I earn around that range. However there is something you are missing out. And that is your service charge. It is very important you negotiate this very well as it will augument your salary. A 5 star hotel should be able to pay you a service charge of almost 100k every month as an IT manager and you must also be entitled to a free lunch daily amongst other things. If these are not included in the package, my guy run for your life oooooooo IT work in hotels no be moi moi ooooo. You will practically be in the office 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, once anything goes wrong in the hotel, they blame it on you. Even if the hotel is not at 100 % occupancy, they say it's the IT Dept. The 200k salary will amount to nothing without these incentives. You could also ask for more incentives other than the 2 I mentioned above, like monthly data and call recharge, paid leave, medical insurance etc. But don't just accept 200k and think it's a lot of money. With a 5 star hotel with 2 branches, am sure you will run away after 3 months if you are based on that salary. You can DM for more information. Which I will readily give you at no cost. Wish you all the best. 1 Like |

I'd advice you say they should pay you according to the company salary structure.... Who knows might be more than what u expect... Since it's a 5star company... And if it's lesser you can always call their attention to it |

My friend went for an interview as a regional sales manager. When he was asked how much he wants, he said N250k per month; he was receiving N150k where he was working. He was employed by the new company with a salary of N250k. He resumed and realized that the zonal sales managers reporting to him were pocketing N300k and that his position is valued at N400k (that was what other regional sales managers were earning). Long story short, he later met with the HR who told him the company met with his expectations. It was promised that his sales incentives will be made more mouth-watering. So he has to toil to make what his subordinates make as statutory pay. Learning point: do a little investigation before you undervalue yourself. Note: this story could have been a reversal whereby my friend lost the job becuase he insisted on a certain figure which the company couldn't afford. 7 Likes |

MaziOmenuko: You have said it all. I have once been in such situation, I was asked the same question during an interview and my answer was straight forward. I told the interviewer that i would like to earn according to the salary structure related to my position (Software Developer). They were not satisfied, hence i had to give a range of figures (400 000 - 500 000 in conversion to Naira). The company later agreed to pay close to N400 000. While on the job, I assume most of my colleagues are earning far more than i am earning - We are not allowed to discuss our salary (Company Policy) - but i never bothered. That said, money should not be your priority for now, focus on the job and continue to acquire more experience. And most importantly, add values to the organisation ). MY CANDID ADVISE IS TO SECURE THE JOB FIRST, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE SALARY. YOU TEND TO GAIN MORE EXPERIENCE THAT WILL BOOST YOUR PAY IN SUBSEQUENT JOB. 1 Like |

This is sign of stingy company. How can you play 5 persons roles while there are teaming unemployed qualified youth seeking job. Many hotel i know pay about 50k per your listed position @ a start so therefore that your hotel wants to cut cost by asking just you to do all. I greet you good morning in the evening bros |

I don't seems to understand the reason for this question o. Is it that you told them you wanted to ask friends on Nairaland before you give an answer or what? At least you must have given them a fee when they asked you to name your price. Why not tell us what exactly you told them, so we can learn from your mistakes or good decision. Wish you all the best bro. |
Re: Need Advice On Salary At My New Job by fruqy(m): 8:37am On Jun 23, 2018 |
gbengs247: That is exactly how it is bro. I told them to pay me according to their salary structure or tell me what they think my services are worth but they said I have to think of sth and get back to them. That's all there is. |

Re: Need Advice On Salary At My New Job by gbengs247: 1:32pm On Jun 23, 2018 |
fruqy:If that is the case, let me tell you some of the things you need to consider before you get back to them. 1. Consider your present take home and other benefits you are entitled to, make sure you are not getting less. 2. Do your Tax negotiations well. Ask them if the figure they expect you say is after tax or before tax(if before tax, charge 15% more than what you have in mind) 3. Ask them to tell you the type of bonuses and allowances they have e.g leave allowance, 13th month, Christmas bonus, productive, housing allowance, pension, gratuity etc) 4. Do they have HMO (Your Health is key) 5. Compare distance from your house. (Calculate well so you don't spend all your salary on Transport) 6. Consider your personal and career growth. 7. Consider annual leave (will they give you the opportunity to go on leave) 8. Consider freedom and work durations ( work environment, who you report to, How many days you work per week, when you resume and close etc) 9. Consider the how many people you will be working with (You need at least 2 people to help you with the job description you stated above) Note: If you can get at least 7 positive responses out of the 10 listed above, then 200k is not bad, if less than 7 please charge more Note: You might not need all the above if you don't have a job at the moment and you are in need of one so badly |

Godwin616: Don't mind that ode They are the people rubbishing and belittling the IT profession. How can you be qualified to take charge of all IT infrastructure in a five star hotel (Enterprise Level) without knowledge of industry salary scale. A five star hotel that have money to invest in website development and maintenance, maintain social media presence, hotel management system and probably CCTV systems as well as Wifi network plus all the workstations that are deployed for their staff should be able to afford 500k to 800k for an IT manager role. Opportunist everywhere gunning for position far above their experience because of nepotism |
