The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters on Thursday said it had secured the sentencing of a 45-year-old man, Abdulsalam Pangu, to 28 years imprisonment.

The convict, a security man at Sariki Kasuwa, Babagida farm, Minna in Niger State was jailed for sexual exploitation of four girls aged between 10 to 15 and keeping a brothel.

A statement by NAPTIP's Head (Press and Public Relations Unit), Mr. Orakwue Arinze, in Abuja said the accused person pleaded guilty to the six-count charge of keeping a brothel, allowing minors to engage in prostitution, procuring minors through threats, for purposes of having carnal knowledge with a man and for himself.

He was sentenced on the first and third count to 14 years imprisonment each without an option of fine and two years each on counts two, four, five and six with an option of fine not exceeding N200, 000 only. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The agency stated that Justice Amina Wambai of the Minna High Court, in her judgment,condemned the growing incidence of sexual exploitation of minors in the society and called on the public to on the guard against sexual predators.

The Executive Secretary of NAPTIP, Mr. Simon Egede said the conviction of Pangu brings the number of such secured this year by the agency to 13.

According to him, the convictions signpost an increase in the efforts of the agency to bring to sexual predators and pedophiles in the society to justice and enhance access to justice by victims of such crime.

He called on states that were yet to domesticate the Child Rights Act to speedily do so as a matter of urgency.
