In what can best be described as clash of the Titans, the rivalry between Samsung and LG electronics has taken a whole new dimension with both companies adopting different screen technologies trying to prove its own brand more superior to the other leaving consumers more confused than ever before. What sets both LG and SAMSUNG at loggerheads is the fact that they both adopt completely different technologies in the manufacture of TV sets. While Samsung is throwing its weight behind the old LCD display technology with LED backlight, LG has become more innovative with its own technology by investing billions of dollars in the development of newer OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display. Samsung called is own (Quantum-dot LED) and has invested heavily as well in its development. OLED and QLED sounds alike but actually they’re very different and I’m here to clear the confusion and declare a winner in this unending war.



Samsung initially developed some TVs using the OLED technology, but in 2014 they quietly abandoned it for LCD and Quantum dot leaving their arch-rivals LG as the only manufacturer of OLED in the world. The reason Samsung abandoned OLED was because it proved to expensive to develop !
LG took a huge risk in going ahead with OLED and the risk paid off massively in 2017 when LG knocked Samsung off the top spot of TV sellers and became number one. LG’s OLED is better than the so called Samsung QLED because it provides richer contrast and display, deeper blacks as well as wider viewing angles. The OLED is also slimmer and light than the QLED. LG, even though they produce better TV displays are considerably cheaper than Samsung ! But if there’s one thing I respect about Samsung, it’s their ability to market their products very well and they’ve succeeded in doing just that. Although, Samsung has claimed that their QLED technology is better than the OLED, its not true ! Samsung are really doing well in terms of marketing and although the QLED have very bright color display, its not as good as the OLED.



MY VERDICT

I don’t know why Samsung is pushing it too hard but no LCD TV will ever be able to compete with an OLED TV. OLED TVs can also deliver the brightest parts of an image with far greater precision than an LCD TV. Surprisingly LG is the only company with monopoly to manufacture OLED screen panels, which means if any other TV manufacturer wants to manufacture OLED TV, they must buy the OLED panels directly from LG. The likes of SONY, PANASONIC, TOSHIBA, PHILIPS all rush to get their OLED from LG but Samsung is too arrogant for that ! Lol. Rather they continue to manufacture their QLED and depend on their brand name to market the products. However our winner right now is LG. Hisense has joined Samsung in manufacturing QLED TV after failing to impress customers with their ULED (Ultra LED) TVs. I think Samsung should just swallow their pride and admit they made a mistake by abandoning OLED displays and go buy their OLED screens from LG instead of marketing this LCD TVs in the name of QLED and even selling it more expensive than the OLED which is more expensive to produce and produced richer display. No wonder SONY, PANASONIC etc all go for OLED.
