Unfortunately, Nigeria's Super Eagles lost to Argentina at the die-minute of yesterday's last group game of the FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Even though the match has ended, some Nigerians are still blaming the loss on FIFA official who despite watching the VAR still went ahead to disqualify the glaring penalty offense against Argentina's defender. But in all these, what's more interesting is the tacit support Nigeria's Super Eagles have got from their fellow African nations who didn't make it to the world cup finals, especially, Ghanaian fans who Nigerians see as a bitter rival.

Whiles some of the football fans felt robbed and upset at referee Cuneyt Cakir’s decision not to award a deserving penalty to the Super Eagles, others were excited that Messi finally showed leadership to led Argentina to the next phase of the tournament.

The Super Eagles toiled their way back into the World Cup Group D match after Victor Moses scored from a penalty spot to cancel out Lionel Messi’s stunning opener.

But the West African side thought they deserved a second penalty when Argentina’s defender Marcos Rojo controlled the ball with his hand after heading the ball in the air.

After Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo wasted a glorious opportunity to score from 14 yards out, Mikel Obi made a desperate appeal for a penalty, with referee Cuneyt Cakir consulting VAR but needing only one replay to dismiss the claim.

Marcos Rojo went ahead to score a fine late volley to send Argentina through to the last 16 of the 2018 World Cup with a dramatic victory over Nigeria in St Petersburg.

Ghanaweb TV caught up with some of the fans who watched the game at Epo’s pub and on the Oxford Street in Accra after the game.
