Sometimes I don't know where NCC stands, protecting subscribers or providers? Cos rolling over unused data involves subscriber subscribing before the expiration date of his/her data. Doing business in Nigeria is not easy, cos if NCC implements this, providers will always find a way to still make their money.

The roll-over policy went into effect on 26/06/2018 and GLO still had the mind to delete my 4.5G unused data on 27/06/2018 immediately after the expiration time. Please, are we joking in this country or what. In spite of the warning they still went ahead with same rubbish showing that up till now, they have not adjusted their system. It well.

NCC that's always conniving with service providers to rip us off. They may look like they're working but indeed they're killing us slowly.

Do you have any evidence of this allegation?

You obviously do not use Smile. sad Forget their lousy adverts. Anytime you still have unused data left on your modem, and the one-month expiry date arrives, just say goodbye to the remaining data. cry I kept losing my remaining 1GB - 2GB out of my 5GB data bundle to them every month, because I hardly finished the whole bundle. Each time I complained about my remaining data getting wiped off, they would claim it is their policy and keep me on hold, or speak plenty grammar until the line cuts off. Now, I am glad about this NCC directive. Let them try and chop my remaining data again at month end, and let me see. God don catch dem! angry
pls the 5gb data plan is how much and what's the code?

I think NCC is also trying to extend the validity of the data, just like the Glo used to do for its data subscribers.

When data is to be expired next June 30 and you happen to subscribe today being 28th June, the validity of your data would be July 29 instead of July 27 and the alloted bytes will be added to the current one....

Barring any unforeseen circumstance, millions of internet users in Nigeria would this week start enjoying the benefit of rolling over unused data which they could not exhaust at the original expiry date following the introduction of the Data Roll-Over policy by the National Communications Commission (NCC).

According to the NCC, the Data Roll-Over policy would come into effect this week following complaints from millions of data subscribers that they were being short-changed by internet service providers as a result of the non-implementation of the policy in the country.

The official statistics provided by the NCC as at year showed internet users in Nigeria were in the region of between 98.3 million and 149.3 million, connected to mobile telecommunications, with players in the industry predicting steady growth of mobile telecommunications subscribers.

Delivering his address at the 39th edition of Consumer Town Hall Meeting (CTM), in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, the Deputy Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, said the Data Roll-Over policy was among the latest in the recent directives introduced by the telecommunications regulatory body to ensure that subscribers enjoy the worth of what they subscribed to.

“As you may be aware, the Commission has been inundated with various complaints such as: Unsolicited text messages and calls; Failure/refusal to roll over unused data at the expiration and activation/subscription to data and value-added services (VAS), without prior consent of the subscriber, among others.

“In response to the above major complaints, the Commission, as consumer-centric institution has taken appreciate steps such as: Development of 2442 DND Short Code to solve unsolicited text messages/calls; Issuance of directives to Service Providers on Data Roll-over which now enabled consumers to roll over unused data for period of time, ranging from 1 day to 7 days , depending on your data plan. This takes effect from 26th of June, 2018.

“Issuance of directives to Service Providers on forceful subscription of data and Value Added Services (VAS) which directs Service Providers to resist from forceful/automatic renewal of data services without prior consent of subscribers. This has taken effect from 21st of May, 2018.

“The Commission also developed 622 Toll-Free Line through which you can easily lodge complaints for any unresolved service issues to the NCC,” Adedigba said.

Adedigba added that the CTM in Akpabuyo was one in the series of such endeavours lined-up to educate Nigerians and protect consumers from , what the Commission views as “unwholesome practices by some service providers.”
He said the programme was to enable a “tripartite meeting of the Regulators, Operators and Consumer to resolve pressing consumer issues with respect to provision of telecom services.”

Adedigba said that, so far, adequate steps had been taken to regulate illegalities and violation of consumer’s right by some service providers, and that in future more policies aimed at protecting the customer would be rolled out to further protect telecommunications subscribers.

How do you do that ? I use Airtel and at this moment I an in danger of losing almost 10GB of unused data sure to their lousy network.

I use airtel Android bundle and I roll over unused data by buying another bundle and subscribing a day before it expires. If you use the Android bundle as well, you can load 1k to your line and dial *496# to subscribe. If you're using a different plan, call their customer service for info. Etisalat is even easier, I just load my line around the time it is supposed to expire and their system automatically roll over my data.

Lol..... If you are not sarcastic, explain in details!

Rollover aught not to be based on additional subscription prior to expiration date of existing subscription.

Thumbs up to NCC since I'm no longer forced to resubscribe automatically. kiss kiss kiss

How do you intend to roll over your data without resubscribing?

on the contrary they are useless and extremely dormant, every data network do the roll over thingy,so that is not rocket science they are just busy for nothing because that is not an achievement.

Same here and it really helps.

I think this roll over of a thing shouldn't be on only re-subscription, it should be in form whereby a subscriber will only exhaust his/her data bundle depending on the usage.

rolling over is not our problem

the speed at which this telcos sweep our data is amazing
Airtel is worse.

and for Glo those ones are something else their network is bad and slow so they don't sweep data

when i try glo unto their cheap data for 2gigg for 1000 naira i nearly cry. God protect me from cheap things this year.
The only network where signal can get lost for about 3 days without you didn't switch off your data
the only service whereby if you on your data connection you will have to wait for 5 minutes before browsing.
The only network where there will be signal in your toilet, corner of your room and beside kitchen cabinet only..
glo internet speed is slower than injured snail
you might give your life to Christ before you finish downloading a porn movie with glo
make thunder fire glo
I remember those days common to make front page for nairaland go dey hard me because of glo useless slow network
but now with airtel i dey make front page anyhow

When you will not stop staying inside the bush.. i pick from any network i want at my location... Mtn, glo, Etisalat, airtel as move in tge speed o light. Network depends on location. Stay in the City. I mean City. Not Sity.
