Is It Right To Graze Cattle On The Grounds Of The National Assembly? by lingoafrica: 8:21am On Jun 28, 2018 |
Ever since Muhammadu Buhari emerged as Nigeria’s president, there have been several cases of abuse mostly perpetrated by the Fulani herdsmen. These include killings over land grab issues with farmers in small communities within Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau states. Also, the Fulani herdsmen have also been guilty of grazing their cattle on public grounds, mostly disrupting public movement and reducing the aesthetic value of some public places. It has become a normal occurrence as these Fulani herdsmen have never been confronted by members of Nigeria’s armed forces for grazing their cattle in the public view of commuters and pedestrians on major streets and roads, especially in Abuja, the country’s federal capital territory. As a video on the website shows, some cattle were seen grazing on the grounds of Nigeria’s National Assembly complex! Before Buhari became president, this would never have been possible, or would it? It is ridiculous that the Fulani herdsmen will freely graze their cattle on a government property without due confrontation by the numerous law enforcement agents there. What this clearly shows, is the fact that the Buhari administration is complicit for whatever reason in the abuse of the environment as well as the community killings (not clashes) in the aforementioned states.
