Following the Otedola bridge inferno on Thursday, which claimed the lives of several people and destroyed over 50 vehicles, the social media was agog with messages and information about the incident. One of such was a juice firm, Fresh Serve, which also made a post that circulated just as fast, offering free wild honey and Aloe Vera to help in the treatment of the survivors who suffered injuries in the explosion.

The offer also included a 30-day fresh fruits and vegetable juice delivery to hasten the healing process. The post also included a contact number for friends and families of the victims to contact them. However, when Sunday Telegraph spoke with the contact person, who preferred to remain anonymous, he said since the post, they have been getting many calls of thanks along with death threats from several callers who may be their competitors.

When the heat became too much, they went ahead to issue a disclaimer about the nutritional information of the products.

Concerning the response so far, they said that they have been the ones going to the victims who are in various burns centres and hospitals. Initially, the survivors had to be stabilised in the first hospices they were taken before being transferred to specialist hospitals for better handling of their conditions. “So far, we have been to Trauma and Burns Centre in Gbagada General Hospital, Gifted Hands Medical Centre and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). We do not have access to all the patients for now as some of them are still in shock, bandages and all.

why r the surprised?

its a marketing ploy they used.

competition in other climes will buy your products, adulterate them and share freely using your name.
na u govt go hold.

wanting to help means going to the authorities to find relevant details, instead of advertising your products on social media.

their advert came out so fast. how many people even knew those affected, much less how to contact them?

stop your crocodile tears and go to lasema offices in the area.

lastly,

buhari, hope '19!

The issue here is just like when bubu decides to take his anti-corruption crusade to the door step of anybody threatening his re-election bid.
It is called insecurity!

Don't know when it has become a capital offence or crime to render assistance to the vulnerable ones. Some people's conscience is dead without any form of sympathy.

Let the competitors join in providing aid to victims of the inferno and publish their own contacts.

Were we created from the same mud as the Europeans? I seriously doubt o. Our level of hate and bitterness is astronomical. If you decide to intervene in fixing a state road wahala, a federal one will get you jail term and they will sit back as people perish just to prepare their reports. Life over here is just STATISTICS

Is anyone surprised? Nigerians should be among the most cruel people on the face of this earth; perhaps that explains why we elect leaders in our own image most of the time. Wasn't during this same Otedola Bridge tragedy that some commuters lamented that transportation fares were suddenly increased by bus drivers and their ilks who were cashing in on the situation? Isn't this same country most sellers jerked up the prices of their goods citing the high exchange rate but when the rates came down from what it used to be it didn't reflect in the cost of goods? The examples are too numerous to mention of how Nigerians exploit their fellow Nigerians all because of greed and an inordinate ambition to "hammer".
