The origins of the Jos Crisis between the Berom indigenes and their Awusa-Fulani Muslim guests stems from the outcome of a local govt election in Jos North in 2001

The Awusa Fulani muslims were not happy with the outcome of the elections as it saw the emergence of a non Awusa Fulani as the winner of that elections.

The Awusa Fulani decided to express their grieviances almost immediately after the results and winner was announced by aattacking and killing non-Awua Fulanis and southerners in their midst.

The Berom people mobolized and went on a retailatory attack in Jos north were hundreds of Awusa Fulanis were summarily killed.

The crisis couldn't have come in a worst time as the Sharia nonsense was spreading like wild fire across the north. The Awusa Fulanis in Jos north saw the emergence of a non-Muslim and non-Awusa Fulani winning a local govt election as against their sharia doctrine which states that Muslims should not be subjected to the authority of a non-Muslim.

The Berom counter attack was so effective in Jos north that the Awusa Fulanis dared not start another of their foolish riots but rather chose t attack isolated villages in remote parts of plateau to exert their revenge.

To show how the Beroms dealt seriously with the Awusa Fulanis in Jos north, the Bauchi state assembly passed a motion expelling all Berom people from their start in reaction to the Berom retaliation of their brothers in Islam.

This is the background to the crisis and as we can see Islam and Awusa Fulani supremacy ideology is at the core of the Jos crisis.
