The police in Osun State have arrested Folasade Olawale, a wife of the traditional ruler of Abudo, Oba Morufudeen Olawale, for alleged arson, and murder of the three-year-old daughter of the monarch.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Olafimihan Adeoye, told City News that Folasade hired some hoodlums whom she conspired with to set ablaze a house in which her step-daughter died.
Adeoye said when the Oba’s wife and other suspects burnt the house, many people who were occupants of the house sustained serious injuries, while the three-year-old daughter of the fourth wife of the traditional ruler died in the inferno.
According to the traditional ruler, his third wife was jealous of the fourth wife and that was her reason for setting the house ablaze.
In a chat with City News, Folasade confirmed that she was jealous of the fourth wife and engaged the hoodlums to beat the fourth wife but did not instruct them to set the house ablaze or kill anyone.
As the suspect wept, she said she was cursed. She expressed regret over her action and pleaded for mercy.
City News learnt that before getting married to the traditional ruler, Folasade had divorced two different men and gave birth to eight children.
The suspect said she gave birth to only one child for the monarch and the child had died sometimes ago.
