Ita Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters (senate), has attributed the high level of insecurity in the country to the “collapse of Libya and Mali”.

Speaking when he hosted students of the Nigerian Law School, Abuja on Friday, the presidential aide said the policy of the ECOWAS free movement protocol is having a negative effect on Nigeria.

The policy allows citizens of ECOWAS states to move freely in and out of any country in the region.

Making reference to the crisis in Plateau state, Enang said “What is happening now is not just ethnic or inter ethnic conflicts, it is pure terrorism. This terrorism is not caused within but without.

“They come in with arms. Whenever there is war or the collapse of any nation state, you will have a collateral effect.

“We are suffering not from ethnic problems, internal to Nigeria, but from the effects of the collapse of neighbouring countries like Libya and Mali.

“Under that protocol, you are to allow them so long as they are Africans.

“Our survival, unity and security of citizens are threatened as a country by this free movement and those who come in with evil intention.”

Enang said the federal government is doing everything within its powers to tackle insecurity.

He said the country is also considering reviewing the application of the ECOWAS policy as in order to reduce the effect of persons coming in to do havoc.

“This is because your country must be safe before you can be a member of the regional body,” he said.

He urged the students to have hope in the country, assuring them that things would get better.

“I urge you to come out and get involved in active politics and support the Federal Government, because this administration means well for the country,” he said.

Almost all parts of Europe are suffering same fate but ours have political inclinations to it. Until the Government invest heavily and sincerely in providing economic infrastructures like stable light, good roads and housing it will still be a fairy tale to no end. Just take a look at the average Barber, he takes a loan with varing interest of between 10-20% spread in a period of 6-10months, rents a shop, equip the shop, buy a generator, pay multiple taxes to State and local govts, fuel his generator daily, pays PHCN's bill for electricity never provided, worry about customers 50% wanting their hair cut on credit. With this scenerio how can youths be actively engaged and keep off being used for violent activities? I think our leaders need tell themselves the truth, We have failed as a nation and the only way out of this selfish quamire is for Nigeria to go back to regions. Let every part of the

This government keeps blaming people for their failures. I won’t be surprised if I hear it’s because of the fall of Timbuktu that’s why we have herdsmen and farmers clash.

Warridis for?
The government should provide enough security to tackle and control the people coming into the country.

We only believe and support the quote below....

“I urge you to come out and get involved in active politics and support the Federal Government, because this administration means well for the country,” he said.

" Under that protocol, you are to allow them so long as they are Africans'..... Sigh....so only Nigeria is mandated to allow armed criminals enter its territory for the mere fact they are Africans? shocked Why do we need ranches....to house the foreign criminals?

Lol these guys have 101 excuses. The problem isnt external considering how things like boko harm were born and fostered here. You say the perpetrators are outsiders but Nobody arrested has been proven to be non nigerian.

The ECOWAS policies only allow citizens of member ststes to travel through designated entry points. The bigger issue is the fact the borders aren't secure. The next issue is fact the government doesn't even enforce ecowas rules like the transhunanism rules.

I do agree the collapse of libya did destabilize the region allowing a huge cache of arms to be dispursed. It should be noted Nigeria supported the invasion of Libya so its our actions coming back to haunt us.

Senator Ita Enang, you just re-echoed the stand of your master without telling us what your master has done to arrest the situation. 2019 is coming. History will judge all of you for helping to bring calamity upon your own people.

Assertions like this confirm government's inability to live up to its responsibility. We don't share borders with the countries mentioned, the armed herders somehow can only enter Nigeria because rubbish border control and FGN knows everything about the conflict except how to curb it.

this guy is a disappointment and a failure at his job

failures always seek excuses and who to blame? Same government keep indicting itself, immigration passage and border security are component parts of the functions of the Federal Government, instead of blaming Libya, tell us what you have done to stem the tide. Even at his level as liaison between the national assembly and the presidency, he has been very woeful, budgets and bills keep getting missing in a radius of less than a kilometer, and ItaEnag gets paid? for doing what exactly? As an experienced former legislator what kind of advice has he offered his boss on solutions to the rifts between the national assembly and the presidency? what exactly justifies Enang to be called 'special' assistant talkless of 'senior' to the president when he has not successfully added any value to his office.
He has failed @ his job yet he offers excuses on the current crisis in north central. who actually checks these guys?
