The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti state says at the end of voting in Saturday’s governorship election in the state, the exercise recorded 90 per cent success.

The REC, Prof. Abdulganih Olayinka, disclosed this to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti while assessing the electoral process.

He said that reports from the eight INEC Commissioners in the field indicated that the election was largely peaceful across the state.

Olayinka said he was glad to hear that all INEC personnel, including ad hoc staff, got to their various pooling unit in good time and the election started early and uniformly.

“Except for Agboyin Local Government Area where it was alleged that ballot materials were scattered on the ground and in one or two places where the card reader malfunctioned, all was well,” he said.

INEC is responsible for all the election rigging in Nigeria. for some weird reasons they feel an obligation to claim every election is successful and announce a result!. If INEC does the right thing you wont need 30,000 armed police men in Ekiti. It would have been possible to conduct this election with 10,000 unarmed policemen with an armed response team of around 5000 armed policemen in the background deployed only in the trouble spots if violence breaks out.

INEC must be willing to re-conduct elections 11 times if politicians are willing to rig 10 times. It is not the place of INEC to cover up the shame of politicians. this is a battle of will.

INEC claims to take people's finger print during registration. If voting is also by thumb print then there should be no rigging. If INEC can store electoral materials after election then it should be possible to retrospectively analyse the electoral materials for wards where there are complaints of electoral rigging to see if there are repeating fingerprints on the ballot to prove rigging. if for any reason the ballot is not available after voting then such wards should be cancelled and should be made to reconduct election.

This is simple people. The only reason we have all this uncivilised violence on election day is simply because of INEC desperation to announce results. If politicians realise INEC are in no rush to announce results and due diligence may be done retrospectively politicians will begin to behave themselves!

at the moment it feels like the Wild Wild West and everyone is trying to outmuscle each other. The Government, opposition, INEC, Police and Army are all complicit in this madness we call elections!
