You might not necessarily think it is a good idea to drink ancient liquid from a ‘cursed’ sarcophagus – but 10,000 people disagree.

That’s how many people have signed a petition to get access to the red liquid which bathed three mummies found when a tomb was prised open this week.

There has been so much desperation to drink it and gain its ‘powers’ that the government has had to step in.

The antiquities ministry said the liquid is neither ‘juice for mummies that contains an elixir of life’, nor is it ‘red mercury’.

In fact, the liquid is sewage water.
Innes McKendrick, who started the petition, said: ‘We need to drink the red liquid from the cursed dark sarcophagus, in the form of some sort of carbonated energy drink, so we can assume its powers and finally die.’
If we can believe the Egyptian government, you certainly might die from drinking it… but because it is sewage, not because it is some kind of high elixir that can transport you to a new realm.
The ministry also said the bones found inside do not belong to any ancient rulers, although the remains are undergoing a thorough examination to reveal more.

Speculation has mounted across media since the discovery of the 2,000-year-old sarcophagus in the coastal city of Alexandria earlier this month, with some suggesting that it belongs to the ancient Greek ruler, Alexander the Great.

The large black granite sarcophagus was found during construction work on buildings.
