How NOT to do INTERVIEWS. 7 MISTAKES:

1. Interviewers come to interviews unprepared or keep candidates waiting.

2. They act like candidates should be grateful they spared them the time. It should be the other way around.

3. They ask irrelevant questions like “Where do you see yourself in 5 years”.

4. They have an inflexible checklist. They keep looking for the "perfect" candidate.

5. They want cookie cutter responses.

6. They keep it overly formal which makes candidates nervous.

7. They only hire candidates acting in similar positions. They don't see potential or transferable skills.

The interview process is definitely outdated and flawed in many companies. Instead of looking for silly reasons to cross people off. Look at the real person to see what value they can bring. Some of my best hires have been those labelled "Overqualified" or with an Employment Gap. Then employers complain, there is a "shortage of quality candidates." Maybe the person is right in front of you. It's sad how many companies aren't getting the best talent, simply due to laziness or just a complete lack of ability to interview for talent.
