It is obvious now that nigerian government(including state governments) no longer want to give jobs to indegenous contractors especially in the road/building construction industry claiminng that our people are not good enough to handle such jobs. so all jobs are now done by "expertriats" especially lebannese. My questions are 1, If contractors can't get contracts in thier own country, where can they get jobs? 2, How many foreign governments are ready to give out such contracts to nigerian contractos? at the end of the day, it's nigerians that end up doing the work while the money is flown away to foreign land: WHY? I tought they say that charity bigins @ home.

Simple reason is that Local contractors are INCOMPETENT. The most important thing is to get the job done and not to give huge sums to some pdp politicians/contractors. Recently, Gov Amaechi of rivers state complained bitterly that he learnt a bitter lesson when he decided to try out local hands cos they all fumbled.

Truth is nigerian contractors dont want to go through the pains of building capacity; or at least go into some techniical partnership if there is an opportunity lurking. They want all the profit to themselves when they dont understand the half of it.

This is evident on the lower level when you ask an artisan, say an automechanic which car he can repair, he would say all japanese, or even all! They take your car and just start trying things out - same attitude at the top level.

They jump at it cos they feel its now or never and think they can wriggle through it somehow someway. Professionalism is not built overnight.

THEY WANT TO COLLECT MONEY AND NOT DO THE JOB.
VERY FEW HAVE THE CAPACITY TO DO THE JOBS IN THE FIRST PLACE.
WHO DO WE BLAME?
