Having a big belly or what is today called a pot belly has been seen by some as a sign of abundant wealth and good living. In fact some in this present era of enlightenment still nurse the mistaken belief that the bigger the size of your belly the more successful and trust worthy you will become.

As a popular Yoruba proverbs says:

Eni to ba yo kun ni ka gbo wo fun... Meaning, we will entrust our money to the man with Pot belly or drum belly...

No doubt you will agree with me that ignorance is indeed on fire. How will a man who is prone to serious health challenges including memory loss, diabetics, cancer (just to mention a few) be entrusted with money because of unhealthy belly size?... Being overweight back then showed wealth. Now, with the price of unhealthy food, being in shape shows wealth.
