Embarassing Inconsistency Of The PDP. by Corrinthians(m): 7:31am On Aug 09, 2018
Over the past weeks and months, we've seen the PDP take several contradictory positions as to how they intend to go about electing(?) their presidential flag bearer.

If PDP can not make up her mind about such W simple intraparty affair, what promise then do they hold about taking decisions that would affect the entirety of Nigerians?

Here are some excerpts about the subject matter:

Sometime ago, the party claimed the its presidential ticket is open to all and would be chosen through a primary process:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared yesterday that its ticket for the 2019 presidential election remained open to all members aspiring for that position.

The party, in a statement by its National Organizing Secretary Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd), dismissed as untrue reports that it had already endorsed somebody for the position.

Akobundu emphasized that the PDP has no room for impunity and imposition of candidates.

He said that the transparent primaries conducted in Ekiti State last month that produced the PDP candidate for the July 14 gubernatorial election, was a testimony to the fact that the party was determined to pursue rule-driven processes.

The party assured members, particularly presidential aspirants and their supporters, that the contest would be open and transparent and Nigerians would be happy at the outcome.

Then, at some point, they said they were relying on Nigerians to help them choose their flag bearer as they want to avoid the mistakes of the past.

POLITICS: PDP reveals how 2019 presidential candidate will be selectedPublished on August 4, 2018 By Fikayo Olowolagba

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that it will rely on Nigerians to help the party choose its candidate for the 2019 presidential election.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan disclosed this to Punch over recent tussle for the ticket between former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; his colleague in Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; and a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He said the decision to rely on Nigerians was based on the party’s determination to avoid past mistakes and imposition of candidates.

Ologbondiyan, however, dismissed the report that the party is backing one of those in line to get its presidential ticket..

Not done with their charade, today, we woke up to news they are tinkering with SELECTING their candidate through a CONSENSUS process. You would wonder whatever happened to their claim of not wanting to repeat the mistakes of the past!

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will meet with all the party’s presidential aspirants to discuss the possibility of agreeing on a consensus candidate for the 2019 elections.

Chairman of the BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin, disclosed this at a news conference in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Jibrin also insisted that those who participated in laying siege to the National Assembly on Tuesday must not be allowed to go free.

While advising the presidential aspirant of the PDP to go about their campaigns with decorum and avoid rumours that could scuttle their chances of becoming president, Walid said the BoT was making every effort to bring the aspirants together to discuss.

“Efforts are on ground by BoT to bring all the PDP presidential aspirants together to consider how best they should accept one of them to stand, realising that despite their number, only one person will emerge as a candidate during the primaries and also only one person will emerge as the President of Nigeria” he said

We are months away from the general elections yet a party that prides itself as the party of choice for Nigerians is yet to make up its mind as regards a PROCESS, let alone a candidate.

If such flip flopping could characterise a single process, how much more hundreds of thousands of processes and decisions that must be made when it comes to governance, a responsibility PDP hopes Nigerians would entrust her with?

Let Nigerians judge for themselves.

grin

So sorry to say, but this thread is meaningless.

The fact that they are thinking of different ways to accommodate all the big wigs that want to contest shows some level of seriousness and transparency( I said some level)

And Nigerians are more interested on who bears the party's flag in 2019.
