A Premium Times reporter Samuel Ogundipe was arrested earlier today by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS over the refusal to disclose the source of one of the stories he reported. The Police has since frozen his bank account just some moment after his arrest and detention. Now notable Nigerians have taken to the social media platform, twitter to call for his release and the #FreeSamuelOgundipe hashtag is already trending on the platform. Among the people calling for his immediate release is Japhet Omojuwa, who tweeted: The Police is clearly using bullying tactics to try to stifle the journalist. If they have a case against him, go to court. This a set back against press freedom. No surprise, na SARS! To start with, fire this IG. All he does is block Danube street with his security. They want to shut down Social Media, silence Journalists, have their lackeys in charge of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is never going to work #FreeSamuelOgundipe Reno Omokri also rendered his voice in the campaign Dear @ProfOsinbajo, On the same day you ordered the police to overhaul SARS, SARS still arrested Samuel Ogundipe, a @PremiumTimesng journalist because of a story. Please consider this as evidence that SARS needs to be scrapped and not overhauled. #EndSARS https://lailasnews.com/freesamuelogundipe-trends-after-sars-arrest-premium-times-reporter-samuel-ogundipe/ 4 Likes 2 Shares

congorasta: This country will not split just because the drunk fisherman from Otuoke was voted out. If you try any nonsense, the Nigerian Police will use you for shooting practice. Why did you not ask your brother Goatluck Jonaddaft to split the country when the drunk fool was looting and sharing. Come 2019, Buhari will win again, you can then kill yourself and then run away. 1 Like |

Buhari will never change. Unlawful detentions, repression of the press, economic misery and in competence are his forte. As it was reported in 1984 is now and ever shall it be with this monumental disaster. Even if Buhari turns to an alfa,Imam or Sheik tomorrow or in his next life, incompetence, press repression, untold economic hardship and national regression will still be found wherever and whenever he is in power because they are inbuilt in his gene. 5 Likes |

When they write fake stories, they won't caution them. When they arrest them to come and explain their nonsense story, that when cryingand useless trends will begin. If they don't arrest these fake news mongers, how do we keep our sanity. |

Born2Breed: In fact, I just don't get it. Nigeria is a foul smelling cesspit. The mandate of SARS is explicit in its very own name - special anti robbery squad. But now you see SARS getting itself involved with purported Internet fraudsters, debt defaulters, journalists and any and every one else. It's disgusting. For as long as the mandate of this renegade unit called SARS is not strictly enforced to be restricted to robbery (and kidnapping) alone, then Osibanjo's directive will be of no effect. 11 Likes 2 Shares |
