Following allegation by Governor Ganduje of Kano State, that the immediate past Governor of the State, Kwankwaso stashed a whooping $1m at a University in Ukraine without sending any scholar, a direct beneficiary of the scholarship programme, took to his Facebook account to debunk the allegation and gave a vivid account of the whole scenario.

THE TRUTH ABOUT KANO SPONSORED STUDENTS IN UKRAINE

Ok most of us here are ignorant of the whole allegation. First of all, Kano State Government (KNSG) statement that no student was sponsored to Ukraine, was baseless, because I was. In fact 60 of us.

Around 2013 KNSG secured admissions to over 100 students for MSc and immediately paid their tuition. unfortunately, the students were denied visa and they were then sent to other countries.

Later, KNSG settled the visa issue, and to utilize their money, I and 59 others were sent to Ukraine, we studied at International Humanitarian University Odessa Ukraine.

If you could remember there was a political crisis between Ukraine and Russia because of Crimea sometime in 2014. Because of the proximity of Odessa with Crimea, tension began to spread all over the city.

Consequently, the then Ukrainian Government advised all the embassies to evacuate their citizen out of the country (I still have the document). So we were rolled back to Nigeria (while we were enjoying our Russian Language preparatory courses, most of us now can understand Russian Language).

In 2015, just before the election, fresh admissions were secured for all of us in several Countries across the globe.

Now the bottom line is, Ukraine has some regulations, they don't refund money once it hits their account, and unfortunately our merciful government had paid our tuition right before we left Nigeria. So, the only way to utilize the funds is for the State Government to send fresh students after normalcy was restored and the new administration of Oga Ganduje failed to do that till today.

I expected the Ganduje-led administration to interview and send a fresh batch of scholars, in order to make use of the fund, instead of rushing to raise fake alarm.
