A Missouri nun who was busted for heeding a much higher calling — trying to smuggle cocaine in a pair of high heels in 2017 — claimed she was duped by her roguish Romeo.

Denise Woodrum, 51, a sister of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ order, was arrested at Sydney Airport in possession of 756 grams of pure cocaine, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Woodrum, who had become romantically involved on the Internet with an Australian man she had never met in person, was part of an elaborate scheme to bring in the nearly 1.7 pounds of blow to her mystery paramour. The man, who’s purportedly named Hendrik Cornelius, has yet to be found.

Once in custody, she attempted calling Cornelius.

“She was groomed to provide a financial gain for this person, Hendrik Cornelius, whatever person or persons it was behind this identity,” said her attorney Rebecca Neil. "There are fraudsters out there who are relying on women who are vulnerable."


On Jan. 31, Woodrum pleaded guilty to importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.

Her father, Tom Rozanski, claimed she had been a teacher who had suffered from depression and undergone a hysterectomy.

“She has never done anything like this before,” Rozanski told Fairfax Media. "And this experience has been difficult for me to understand.”
