Stop funding political parties, CPC tells INEC
The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC, to stop funding political parties.

The CPC National Secretary, Buba Galadima, who stated this on Monday, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, said that there was need for parties to be self sustaining, as it would encourage discipline among the virile political parties and ensure that only viable ones are kept afloat.

“Funding of political parties by INEC has become a big business for many political parties to make so much money for doing nothing,” the CPC secretary said.

Mr. Galadima attributed the proliferation of parties to the dole out from INEC, saying government funding was largely responsible for the violence and legal tussles within existing parties.

“The idea is odd as it has made the whole scenario to become so untidy and resulted in proliferation of so many non functional political parties as it is in Nigeria today,” he said.

Mr. Galadima, whose party is the fifth largest political party in Nigeria by virtue of the number of states it controls (the CPC controls only Nassarawa State where its member is the Governor), also urged INEC to regulate the role of money in politics through appropriate measures.

He said there was need for urgent reform towards stemming the atrocities arising from excessive use of money in politics.
