Beginning from the 12th of November, whatsapp users will have unlimited access to data storage on Google drive, this was made possible by an agreement reached between Facebook and Google. Whatsapp recently made this announcement informing users that in a few moths time they will be able to save all their chats and multimedia messages to Google drive without fear of the usual quota limitation. It further stated that users must have a Gmail account and Google play services installed on their devices in order for this to work. 

This is a welcome news for user’s since it will become possible for them to get back all their whatsapp messages and chats even if they lose their phones or acquire a new one as long as they can remember their Gmail accounts and passwords that was used when initiating the backup. Moreover, it is advised that if you have not updated your backups for a year or more, such backups will be automatically deleted from whatsapp. So in order not to lose your previous backups it’s highly recommended that you do a manual backup before the 12th of November.

Note: It’s always advisable to use a WI-Fi connection for your first backup since it’s going to take a considerable amount of time depending on the volume of your whatsapp data.

1. Open whatsapp 

2. Click on settings

3. Go to chats

4. Select chat backup

5. Click on backup
