Born on December 25, 1924, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, one of the most beloved political leaders of our country who led us in a new direction of growth, unfortunately passed away on August 16, 2018. The leader who is known to be one of those who very first established the foundation of the today’s ruling party, BJP and the person representing the comrades as told by many was a effulgent man. It is great loss to the nation that now that he is finally not here to guide us, hardly ever a man like him shall ever come again and be so devoted towards the nation.

His grandfather, Pandit Shyam Lal Vajpayee had migrated to the city Gwalior and that’s where Atal Ji was born to Krishna Devi and Krishna Bihari Vajpayee. He did his schooling from the Saraswati Shishu Mandir from Gwalior only and then attended the now called-as Laxmi Bai college with distinctions in three subjects. He then did his M.A in political science for he had a great deal of interest in the political system of the nation at that time when whole of the nation was fighting for the independence.


At the age of only 16, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji became an active member of the RSS which was however shut down later in 1948 for supposedly their alleged role in the assassination of the Mahatma Gandhi. However later in 1951, he started working for newly formed Bhartiya Jana Sangh who started to be called as the Hindu right wing political party of RSS only where he was appointed as the national secretary of the party. Right from the very early age, Atal Ji was clear that he wanted to work all his life for his country and spending 24 days in jail during the `Quit India Movement’ was just one of the many examples that proved that. And over all of this, one thing that made people got so attached to this leader was his oratory skill. He had such a great command over his words that many leaders themselves would just sit and listen to him speaking for hours long. His command over his words and faith in his own speech made people believe that India was rising above all what had happened in the past to the day of the good.

Later in 1968, when the leader of the Jana Sangh, Deendayal Upadhyay passed away, the leadership was passed on Atal Ji. Then in 1977, a coalition of parties led by Moraji Desai won the election and he was chosen as the Prime Minister but when he resigned in 1979, with him got dissolved the Jana Sangh. Finally ten among all of the chaos, emerged a new party, BJP in 1980 which was formed by some prominent leaders including Atal Bihari Vajpayee that was then chosen as the President of the party and that went on to become of the greatest parties if the country and the ruling one as of now.

During the 1984 elections, Atal Bihari Vajpayee shifted back to hometown Gwalior to contest the elections. However being a new party in the arena and lacking behind because congress used the sympathy card ig Indira Gandhi’s assassination at that time, BJP only was able to secure two seats in the parliament and seeing this, Atal g quit his presidency. But then from 1990, BJP started getting hold of the power subtly when they stood in support of making a temple dedicated to the Lord Rama in Ayodhya.
