DESCRIPTION.

Basil is an herb. The parts of the plant that grow above the ground are used to make medicine. Basil is commonly used fresh in cooked recipes. In general, it is added at the last moment, as cooking quickly destroys the flavor.

8. Basil is effective in strengthening the hair shaft.

9. Basil helps in rejuvenating and producing healthy hair by stimulating the hair follicles.

10) Basil can provide prevention of damage by radiation.

SIMPLE TIPS TO GROWING BASIL FROM SEEDS.

Growing Inside ,Indoor or Greenhouse : You can start basil seed inside any time of the year provided the seeds are in a constantly warm environment, they do not like cold soil temperatures at night when germinating. For a 4 inch pot, sow about 2 to 3 seeds a quarter inch deep in moist potting mix. You can also start the seeds using nursery trays with grow medium such as cocopeat..

Once the seedlings have emerged, keep them in a lighted place but out of direct sunlight, then once the second set of leaves have fully formed, they can be moved to their final position, presumably a sunny part of the house. Once the seedlings have reached a height of around 3 or 4 inches, pinch out the top most leaves as this will encourage the basil plant to produce lateral shoots, helping it to bush out.

As the plants continue to grow, remove any flower buds as they arise as this will signal a change in the flavour of the basil, making the leaves bitter and even unpalatable for some people. Flowering will also cause a significant reduction in the growth of new foliage, reducing the amount which can be used for cooking.

Growing Outside or Open field : Personally, I think all basil seeds should be started inside for best results, starting seeds about 6-8 weeks before the last frost. But, if you must start them outside directly in the soil, then sow the seeds in the garden after all danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed. Cover seeds about 1/4" deep and in a row, Grow in a rich, well-drained, soil and in full sun. Pinch the tip from the center shoot of Basil after it has grown for 6 weeks to force side growth and prevent early flowering. If flower stalks develop, simply snip them off.You can as well create a seed bed for the purpose of raising the seeds in nursery .

HARVESTING BASIL..

Harvest the basil often. The trick to growing basil that is large and abundant is to harvest often. The more you harvest, the more the plant will grow. When harvesting, pinch off the stem right above where a pair of leaves are growing. After you harvest, two more stems will start to grow, which means twice the leaves next time you harvest! Remove flowers. Once a basil plant flowers, the leaves start to lose their good flavor. If you remove any flowers, the leaves will get their good flavor back in just a day or so.

NB : This is just a tip to Basil growing. You can contact us for more information you may require on basil growing such as foliar fertilizer ,pesticides application ,water requirements and so on .

PARSLEY CULINARY HERB VEGETABLE.

Because Parsley takes so long to germinate many gardeners have trouble raising parsley.
It has long been considered a valuable herb and we know it to be rich in iron and carotene. It need not be confined to herb gardens either, for in the flower garden its foliage provides a pleasant back-ground, particularly to spring bulbs.

It has, however, a reputation for being fickle, sometimes doing well and sometimes failing miserably. More often than not, the problems are due to slow germination, poor soil and over-crowding. Basically, parsley needs warmth for germination, a rich, deeply dug soil and plenty of room. When these conditions are satisfied, the plants will develop into dark green plants that are a joy to see and to pick.

Parsley, is naturally slow germinating, and along with carrots and celery, parsley can suffer from having seeds with underdeveloped embryos. This means that once sown these seeds still need time to develop and mature before they can germinate. Whilst in this immature state they are susceptible to soil pests and diseases and this is often the reason why germination is slow . Early sowings often also fail because the soil temperature is too low for rapid germination and development. Germination

Parsley will germinate at temperatures from 40-90°F. The optimum temperature is 80°F with a drop during the night to 68°F, and at lower temperatures germination will take correspondingly longer. A suitable compromise particularly for early sowings, is to sow in containers at room temperature, when germination usually takes around 7 days, and transplant later on into the garden. An alternative is fluid sowing where pre-germinated seedlings are piped along the drill . Research has shown that this method results in better and earlier emergence. Also the seeds could be treated with growth boosters like king humus plus soaking the seeds with it overnight.

It is usually only necessary to make two sowings, one in spring and one in the summer.
The latter crop to provide continuity of supply through the winter, and into the following spring. If you are sowing indoors it can be done as early as February for planting outside in April. Outdoors, sow in drills 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep, in rows 12 inches apart. During dry weather water the bed well before sowing and if you have persistent problems with parsley, try mixing damp peat with the seeds before sowing. Watering the drill before sowing with a kettleful of boiling water has also proved helpful, perhaps because it acts as a soil sterilant to keep disease and weeds away during the long germination period.

After germination, perhaps the most important thing is to give the plants enough room, so thin out before the seedlings begin to crowd and leave each plant finally with 12 inches of space. Light picking can commence 85-90 days from sowing and from then on should be carried out regularly along the full length of the row. This will ensure a constant supply of fresh leaves. You can dry what you do not use or even put it on the compost heap, but if you stop picking, the foliage will go coarse.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF PARSLEY

1. Reduce your cancer risk. Eating parsley can reduce the risk of cancers such as breast, digestive tract, skin and prostate.

2. Improve your immune function.

3. Parsley helps to modulate the immune system. ...

4. Beat inflammation.

5.Fight diseases.

6.Protect your blood vessels.

These and more others are some of the benefits of taking parsley.
