Senator Bukola Saraki's special assistant on new media, Olu Onemola, in response to claims by the BMO (Buhari Media Organisation) cleared the facts on their claim that he was stalling the INEC budget approval process by not reconvening the senate for a plenary.

While he did a neat job of laying facts bare, he also exposed something that I have been bothered about.
And that is how the current administration has done nothing to strengthen transparency in the electoral process, building up from where the past administrations stopped.

Jonathan made the right move to go the technology way, but card readers are not in our electoral laws, so the evidence of fraud made clear by card readers could not be made to bear on final judgements. At (and after) the tribunals, everyone agreed the next step was to include these new transparency checks into our laws.

The Electoral Act was passed by the National Assembly to take all of us further but the executive has turned a blind eye to it up till now.

This is the excerpt from Mr. Olu Onemola's statement.

Nigerians want to know why President Buhari withheld his assent on the first Electoral Act passed by the National Assembly to help legalize the various innovations that are needed for free and fair elections. These are the questions @BuhariMediaORG should ask their principal.

@BuhariMediaORG should ask their principal the following questions:

“What is he afraid of in the very progressive proposals contained in the Electoral Bill?”

“Why does he want to frustrate the 2019 election by not signing the much-needed enabling laws into effect?”
