The Wills Acts of 1837 is an English statute of general application in Nigeria, although some States has replaced same with their own individual Wills Laws. For instance, Wills Law Cap. W2, Laws of Lagos State, 2003. While, in the Western Region of Nigeria, the Wills Law Cap. 133, Laws of Western Region of Nigeria of 1959 applies in the States carved out of the region that have not yet enacted their own Wills Laws.

*Features of the Wills Laws of the States are:*

1) The rights to make a Will and dispose of an estate by any person is secured.

2) The freedom of the testator(maker of the Will) is sometimes restricted by the imposition of limitations in respect of the disposition of the testator's estate.

3) It's consist of some requirements for the validity of a Will.

4) Witnesses are part of the requirements for making and revoking of a Will.

5) There are also provisions to ensure that a Will doesn't elapse as a result of the death of the beneficiaries of the Will.
