Following the alarm raised this morning by residents of Amagu Village in Udi Town, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, over the erosion menace in their area, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi immediately dispatched his deputy, Her Excellency, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji and the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Nestor Ochin, among other members of the delegation, to the site and other identified erosion locations at Ugwu Onyeama along Enugu-Onitsha federal expressway and Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka road, to assess the level of the impact with a view to addressing the challenges as well as averting any form of casualty.

While at the site in Amagu Village, the deputy governor after receiving a technical brief from the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, directed the Chairman of Udi L.G.A to close the affected section of the road immediately and promised to brief the governor accordingly for further directives.

She, therefore, urged residents of the area to exercise caution and keep away from the site, assuring them of the state government's commitment to their safety and well-being.

At Ugwu Onyeama erosion site, Hon. Mrs. Ezeilo regretted the challenges road users encounter on the federal road on a daily basis, promising that the governor will interface further with the federal government on how best to remedy the situation in order to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

She therefore "appealed to the federal government to come to our rescue", and also reimburse the state government the already approved sum it spent on federal roads, to be able to intervene on more federal projects, stressing the importance of the Enugu-Onitsha road as a gateway into the South East geo-political zone from the North.

At the Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka, road the deputy governor, who was led to the site by the member representing Nsukka East Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Nwamba in company of other members of the delegation, promised quick intervention through reclaiming of the affected areas, noting that the erosion threat on the road is still young.

Enugu State is truly in the hands of God! #amokelouis
