What is politics? Is politics a profession or a career? Why are many people interested in politics? Should i participate in politics? is politics a dirty game? How does politics shape up the economy of a nation? These are few of the questions we often ask ourselves but people respond with different opinions.

What is politics: Politics is the process of making decisions that apply to members of a group. It refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance—organized control over a human community, particularly a state (Wikipedia). From the above definition, politics should be process of making informed decisions, making policies, standing for an ideology and a believe on how a state or country is to be governed.

Politics is also a mean of acquiring power in government, and influence the government in your favor. There is a popular saying that money without power is meaningless, but with power, you get follower and you got influence. that is why most rich people among us almost all over the world were in one way or other either discretely or fully involved in politics.

Is politics a profession or a career? Politics i will say is not a profession because in any profession, there are requirements, job responsibilities and even qualifications you most possess before you can be actively involved. but i am not sure there is such academic qualification in politics. However, in Nigeria, politics is a career, a profession which people are earning a living from. Nigerian politicians see politics as a mean to acquired massive wealth for themselves and their unborn generations. A tool to take to take their own share of the national cake. A game of interest, DOA (Death or Alive), a game where thuggery is highly lucrative and a means to impoverish the masses and amass wealth unto themselves. A beggar they say has no choice, who is a beggar if not the poor, and no one bite the finger that feet him.

Why are many people interested in politics. There is general tendency among human to be rich and politics is an avenue to do so without without much qualifications, the only requirement is to be in the winning team (party) and have a political gladiator as godfather.

Can these trends in our politics be tamed? Well nothing is impossible, politics is a game of numbers, and we make up the number, we hold the power at least once in every four years. What do we do do with it, do you sell yours power cheaply like Esua in the Bible for a morsel of bread or for few thousands? If the answer is yes, there is time for amendments as the time to exercise our power will soon be around the corner. they will dangle carrot before you, eat corn and sugar cane with us on the streets, sweet talk you and promised heaven on earth, never you fall for such plots again. We are now wiser.
