Civil Society Is Dead In Nigeria - Here's 5 Reasons Why by lingoafrica: 3:37am On Aug 25, 2018
If you are a Nigerian or you read a lot about Africa and its politics, you will remember how civil societies/organizations, ‘fought’ against removing fuel subsidy using the January 2012 Occupy Nigeria movement, where citizens came out en masse to the streets and brought the entire nation to a standstill.

It was an era when most Nigerians bought into the idea that a few civil society groups would always stand by the ideals of the country and bring significant changes that will be for the benefit of the common Nigerian.

Fast forward a few years later, the idea of civil society groups no longer holds water among Nigerians especially for those who are politically enlightened and strive to do their own personal research, without buying into the government-sponsored programmes in the media or the padded messages churned out by the blinded supporters of government on social media.

Like Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, the ultimate rulers of a democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of a country.

This is gradually but surely playing out in Nigeria, as a lot of young Nigerians are now aware of the power they wield in terms of their rights and speaking out against injustices, suffered by the common man.

Ever since the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration came into power in 2015, there have been several cases of social injustices done to regular, everyday citizens. However, the civil societies that were previously active before the administration came into being have gone silent, so, the citizens have fought for themselves through social media advocacy.

This write-up show that PDP was useless as a ruling party and also useless as opposition party.

Most of the prominent leaders of those Civil Society Organizations are now card carrying members of APC hence they have sold their conscience to the devil.

Dear Nigerians, be on the side of your beloved country, not on the side of political parties.

they supported this administration likewise me at earlier stages. but now they are so disappointed to eat their vomits. example is pastor bakare. only Soyinka is speaking up for now. other civil society group are too tired and losing hope in Nigeria and just waiting for 2019.

What do you expect?

Even the media that are always good in drilling the last government appointees, the ministers even the President in any little issue

All of them have become deaf and dumb

Nonsense!

They are all on the pay roll of jagaban,he is the only one that can call them to action, even if they see the entire country in flame now, they won't say anything unless jagaban asked them, and the jagaban is cool with everything now because of 2023 so don't expect anything from any civil society

The civil society groups were misled by the likes of Tinubu into supporting the APC to power.

They were quickly discarded and because there are evidence the APC can use in blackmailing most of them, they lost their voices in condemning the tyranny that the APC has turned out to be.
