The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says it has received a batch of 164 assisted voluntary returnees from Libya who were stranded in failed attempts to reach different European countries. The Agency’s Spokesperson, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that the returnees arrived at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja at 8:50p.m. on Thursday night. Farinloye said the returnees comprised of 61 adult females including seven pregnant women, 96 adult males, two children and five infants, adding that 17 of the returnees had medical cases. He said that they were brought back through the assistance of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) aboard a Libyan Airline flight with registration number 5A-DMG. The spokesman said the Nigeria Immigration Service, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Refugees Commission, the Police and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officials were on ground for profiling and documentation of the returnees. Similarly, the Director General, NEMA, Mr Mustapha Maihajja had therefore called on faith and community based organisations to join government in efforts at discouraging irregular migration and the get-rich-quick syndrome in the society. Maihajja, represented by the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Yakubu Suleiman, appealed to religious and community based organisations in leading attitudinal change towards discouraging irregular migration. “When these organisations embrace the governments’ efforts at curbing the menace of irregular emigration that has led to the death of several youths and rendered many incapacitated, the surge of irregular migrations will be minimised. “As much as these bodies can cause positive change, which the government is aware of, some of them are culpable in misleading the youths based on revelations of some of the returnees,” he said. http://www.metronaija.ng/nema-receives-another-164-stranded-nigerians-from-libya-2/ |

Terrible journey and experience ... The bitter and sad truth with these returnees is this: Most of them feel defeated and been forced back to whatever it was they were fleeing from, most especially seeing how close to Europe they had gotten. To this end, it is no surprise that after a while they set sail yet again in search of the proverbial greener pasture which isn't always greener after all on the other side judging by this perilous means of reaching it. Life experience has thought me that life is indeed a process and whatever we usually think we are having to deal with is truly life in itself and akin to NYSC. However, when we set out to help life in it's own course by jumping the gun and trying to get one over life, we most a time end up getting sent back to the starting block of life to complete the NYSC we hitherto had been avoiding to go through. Get a holistic and encompassing idea of what obtains on this deadly voyage in my my book. I spared no details. It is a story that needed a telling. A word they say is enough for the... Life na jeje my people, there are sane and humane avenues to go in search of the "greener pastures" incase any greens still remains. Not with all the present climate change and global warming of world economies.. Check out my siggy for my experience on the journey almost 20 years ago. Paperback preorder available. 4 Likes |

Posterity will never forgive us, for sitting down and watching these people we call leaders ruin our future and that of our offspring. once every child is eager to leave his father's house, you know there's something terrible happening in that house. The damages done to this country can take more than 10 centuries to repair, if you doubt walk down the street find out yourself. If every country visa should be made free, Nigeria population will be less than 10,000 within a month. We are doomed as a nation and some of us don't even know it. Soon every one will feel the hit, as you're reading this right now... there are over 100 thousands youth trying to scam one or two persons. 3 Likes |

hacmond: If you can visualise the story of Moses leading the children of Israel out from bondage in Egypt and due to his stubbornnesss was shown Canaan land ( the promised land) and told that even though he is so close to the beautiful land, he won't get into it. You'd understand the drive through Libya or Morocco as was in my case. "See Morocco, see spain. That's still a slogan. |

Omoo, anyone wey dey work hard no fit just travel carelessly without concrete arrangement of what he/she is to do there. Outside that, even if you dont have something doing yet here in Nigeria is not a reason for one to travel carelessly. You can use your brain and create things. Think and create job for yourself and others. The space is still available and I.C.T can be an enabling platform to kick-start your idea. Say no to illegal migration!!! Lets create here in Nigeria and give it the comfort you want. Person wey get money for we country no dey plan go anywhere 000. Enjoyment sweet pass for here wen the money is available. So lets work hard and smart and get what we want here in Nigeria. |
