Ondo to construct 2.5km road with N2.8bn

Ondo State Government said it would spend a whopping N2.8bn to dualise the 2.5km Arakale/NEPA Road which will begin next week.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ranti Akerele, who stated this at a news conference in Akure on Friday, however, said that the re-construction of the road would cost N1.5bn while owners of the 260 houses that would be demolished would be compensated with N1.3bn.

Akerele said professional estate agents had been contracted to carry out the actual value of the affected houses and that the genuine owners would receive their full compensation before the road construction.

He said the new design of the Adesida/Oyemekun Road would enable the state government to transform Akure into a modern city that would be compared to other state capitals in the world.

He said the plan was to decongest the major road of taxis and commercial motorcycles by introducing modern buses, which would have dedicated lanes like the Bus Rapid Transit Scheme in Lagos State.

is the money too much , i don't get it,
i know a lot of government offcials use capital road projects to siphon money

Its a little over N1BN per KM and it is too expensive. 2.5 KM is about 1.5 miles and paying about $20M for a 1.5 mile road built with asphalt is ridiculous.
